Question for the nfl aficionados, how do transfers work? Could another team buy Mahones and how much would he likely cost?

And, as KC keep doing so well does that mean they get shitty draft picks to let the other teams catch up?

Lastly, Taylor Swift is the goat. That’s not a question, more an observation.

Thank you

Players are traded more than transferred as we understand it. Because of the salary cap rules players generally become too expensive to keep and that's when proven veterans are shipped on. Trades usually involve draft picks as compensation and yes the Chiefs will pick last in each round of the upcoming draft (barring trades).

If you think Ms Swift is a looker check out Brittney Mahomes' Sports Illustrated photo shoot. The QB gets the best girlfriend (well wife in his case, she's a mother of 2).

Only way he could leave is if he runs down his contract and becomes a free agent (won't happen- plus I think he signed something like a 10 year contract a few years ago) or a team trades for him. The price of that trade would be many, many draft picks (I'm struggling to see what could be offered that Kansas would accept though as he's irreplaceable).

Yeah, Super Bowl champs pick last and the team with the worst record pick first, which should allow them to pick the best player available. However it's hard to scout players in college and picking first doesn't always mean you'll get the best player. Mahomes I think was something like 15th drafted by KC. I think he might've even been the 3rd QB picked in that draft.

All trades I think.  Can swap players and/or your draft picks for the player you want.

No transfer fees I don't think. And correct regarding the shitty draft picks I think.

And Taylor Swift would get it HAFUTA

A lot of 'i thinks' in there. You don't really know what you're on about do you?

It's a bit complex but Mahomes is going to be quite well paid going forward, the 2 cleverest things he and his agent have done is a) getting his salary guaranteed for injury and b) getting the next 2 years guaranteed given he's on the roster each season.

Patrick Mahomes signed a 10 year, $450 million contract extension with the Chiefs on July 6, 2020. The contract has $63.0819 million fully guaranteed at signing including a $10 million signing bonus. $141 million is guaranteed for injury and a total of $477.631 million can become guaranteed based on roster status. The guarantee structure is as follows. Upon signing Mahomes' 2020, 2021, and 2022 salaries are all guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2021 league year Mahomes' 2023 salary and bonuses will become fully guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2022 league year all of Mahomes 2024 compensation will become fully guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2023 league year Mahomes $38.9 million 2025 roster bonus will become guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2o24 league year the rest of Mahomes' 2025 salary will become guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2025 league year Mahomes $38.9 million 2026 roster bonus will be fully guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2026 league year the rest of Mahomes 2026 salary and his $49.4 million 2027 roster bonus become guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2027 league year the rest of Mahomes' 2027 salary and his entire 2028 salary and bonuses will become fully guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2028 league year Mahomes salary and bonuses in 2029 are guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2029 league year Mahomes' 2030 salary and bonuses are guaranteed. On the 3rd day of the 2030 league year Mahomes $13.9 million 2031 roster bonus is guaranteed. Finally on the 3rd day of the 2031 league year the rest of his salary is guaranteed.

The Chiefs converted Mahomes' $21.716 million roster bonus into a signing bonus on March 11, 2021. The move created $17.374 million in cap space for the Chiefs in 2021. Mahomes' cap number will increase by $4.343 million in each of the next four years of the contract.

Mahomes signed a revised contract in September of 2023 that moved cash forward from later years, effectively giving him a raise of $48.3 million from 2023-26. The reworked deal also added two void years in 2032 and 2033 and changed his incentives to escalators to help create roughly $2.5 million in 2023 cap space.
