Out Of Contract

Absolutely bizarre if we keep on Devlin. 3 and a half year contract and he's played for about 3 months. I get it he's had his injuries but the worst part is when he has had a run he's been absolutely gash, apart from at the start of 2018/19.

Agree - get rid & free up a wage or just “give” his wage to Hedges & extend his deal.

Well we won't have to wait much longer to find out.  These things are normally announced pretty quickly after the last game of the season. Monday would be my guess.

McGinn, Anderson, Devlin and Ross are probably the only ones that might stay on for all or part of next season.   My gut feel is that Ross will miss out, you'd expect him to have been tied up by now if he was staying on. And we've probably boxed ourselves and Anderson in by offering him a new deal.  Doesn't leave him with much option but to sign it really as you just can't see anyone stumping up compensation.

I'd be surprised if any of the rest stay. Whether that be the club's choice or their choice.

Given the way Glass has been speaking, it sounds like a few might be staying.

Would like to see Ethan Ross and Bruce getting another chance under the new regime... the rest can go.

So disappointed by the gradual decline of Hoban. Looked brilliant initially.

Has he ever played about 40 games in a season?
I’ve not looked but I’d doubt it.

He looked like he was pulling a tractor from about February onwards. He was never the quickest but seems to have got slower as the season has gone on.

Thought he looked decent at the start of the season in a back 3, but not good in a back four.

If you’d asked me in September/October I’d have wanted him to stay.
Not bothered now.
Him, Taylor & Devlin can all go.

Get another central defender in to go alongside Gallagher.

Not a complete disaster if that happens.

Remember we can still finish 3rd this season and its going to be Glass' first full season. The new management team might improve a few of these players and only need to add in a few key signings.

Thats what I'm telling myself. I generally do my miserable negative posts on a Monday

Going to split the crowd either way this one.

If he releases them all some won't be happy that their favourites haven't been kept on.

If he keeps any folk will be unhappy their favourites haven't been kept on instead.

He could do worse than let them all go but if he thinks he can do something with one or two then that's fair enough as well.  As long as the majority move on. But there's no one on that list that we'd be gutted to see depart at this stage.

Totally agree. I would imagine Anderson if he has been offered a deal would fancy a crack at a new manager and also the chance to work with Russell you would think would be appealing. Mcginn for me on the kind of wage he is on should be moved on and no way Devlin should be kept, the only other one might be Hoban as cover for Gallagher as we need  a Younger quicker centre back to play along side Gallagher, he may see Hoban and Considine as good cover. I am not of the opinion that McCrorie would make a good centre half, Right back and Midfield is where he should play

You’re not normally that daft.

How can you think none will be retained when he’s quoted as talking about players being retained?

I was under the impression he said there would be announcements about the out of contract players(not that it necessarily would mean any have resigned).

I don’t get what you don’t get about that DD?

I just don't know why you are specifically worried about spoken individuals when it could be 3 different players from the list staying.

Aye maybe I’m being speculative, but it’s been fairly widely reported in the media about Anderson & Devlin, including the local media not just the red tops of Glasgow.

McGinn is pure guesswork on my part.

Anderson stays by default. Loan him out in August if we get the strikers we want.

The rest should really all be moved on.

McGinn if he is now on Ross County / Hamilton wages for his other offers then it might be interesting for us to make that offer.

Everyone else GOODBYE

                        Lewis

New RB  Gallagher new CH MacKenzie

              Brown Ferguson

   Hedges  McGrath new winger

                   New striker

so that’s 4 new players for the first X1 & maybe a couple others as back up.

I’ve made a bit of a leap about McGrath obviously.

MacKenzie seems to have something Glass can work with, but I don’t think I’d want him as our starting LB. He was getting shipped off to Atlanta reserves before COVID hit.

Starting RB, CH, LB, AM, LW and CF minimum still required for me. Some more on top of that for squad depth as well.

A huge ask getting all that in 1 window though.

Totally agree.

If we can get 4 of those positions covered in the summer we'll be doing well. Obviously a CF is priority given we have none contracted for next season as yet....and if we give Anderson a new contract I'm not counting him. One of the full backs, a left CH and a LW would be my preference, get the other full back and an attacking midfielder in January (pre-contracts if absolutely necessary, I could live with a loan or two for 6 months to tide us over so long as we had the long term solutions definitely coming in during the summer 2022 window)

Why would you loan Anderson out? He’s 21/22, he’s either good enough to be in our squad, or he should be binned.
I’d personally go with the latter but fuck giving him another contract and another loan period.

23 in September. Loaning him out for another year would make him almost 24 by the time he comes back.

How old is he going to be before he is deemed ready?  All indications are that he's going to miss the boat here. I think it's best for both parties to start afresh as there will be expectation here for bigger names up front after this year's attacking shit show (failed to score in 15 league games!!)

Did Virtonen get a new contract? If not, him and Ethan Ross are tatties, if they are not getting game time during this evaluation period.

Not sure how long a contract we gave Mark Gallagher but would suggest he find a new club too.

We’re going to be stuck with Hayes, McGeough, Kennedy, maybe even Ojo, cos of the dough they will be on. People talk about the days of Eddie Turnbull and his axe but the manager had all the power in them days.

Cheers, Derek

Virtonen got another year bizarrely and has been injured ever since

Anderson gets a contract by default.

The best scenario is a club wants to sign him for a nominal transfer fee but he needs the contract on the table so we can protect that position.

The arguement to sign him (and loan him out in August) is 1) to protect that potential nominal transfer fee and 2) cover a place in the squad as it may be 2 to 3 months until we have our 3 strikers all in place.

Yeah that's fair enough.

1) If he's 23 in September, there will be no development fee applicable for him next summer.

Agreed, but quite the turnaround

When he first played it looked like a coup!

We played to his strengths and he got a rest, as we were concerned about him getting injured.

He looks totally uncomfortable now and he's probably knackered with all the football he's been playing.
