Aberdeen sack Derek McInnes

Recommended Posts

If he has any chance to save himself he should come out with a statement along the lines of:

“We have a load of injuries and the young boys need time but we are going to commit to attack and entertain the fans.

It may take time but I know the fans will back the young boys and give them time providing we are showing progress and having a go.

We need game management at times but I accept at the moment I have instructed the team to not go forward. This will change.

Fuck the Huns.”

What he said post match was all about how Gerrard has done a good job at Rangers, how they have made good signings in the close season and they will be close challangers to Celtic this season, that alone is enough for me to be punted, what he should be doing is apologising to the fans that travel week in week out and spent thier hard earned money travelling to watch that shit and he could gaurantee they would never be put through as weak a performance in the future.

FWIW...I think he will get to see the training ground opened and probably deserves that.

I don't understand this way of thinking. AFC owes McInnes nothing. He did a decent job for a few years and was handsomely rewarded but we've been regressing for a couple of years and the style of football is depressing. No room for sentiment in football, if it's not working then you change it.

Don't get me wrong...I certainly think the new contract was a contract too far. But he has won us a trophy, stopped us from being a perennial laughing stock and his input into the training ground will prove invaluable long after I have shuffled off this mortal coil. I think he deserved to see it opened (unless he put us into a position at any point where relegation was a danger). The natural break point would be next summer as his contract ran out. We could have taken our time right now to find the right replacement to take us forward next season and McInnes could have left with his head held high and with the respect of most of the support...…...even if this turned out to  be a shitty season ending in a 5th-7th place.

He will now end up leaving with everyone saying he outstayed his welcome and oversaw a decline in the club. Sure his pockets will be well filled but his future prospects of managing in England again will be shot to pieces at the level he desires.

I agree but I also think if he hadn't signed a new contract it would have been unsettling for the club with all the speculation all season.

I feel the recruitment issue is the problem. To many times trying to sign players who might turn good if they weren't injured all the time who then get injured all the time.

The loss of form of players isn't helping, Logan, McKenna, McGinn...even young Lewis Ferguson isn't contributing as he was and very much looks like a young lad being asked to cover 2 players at the same time. Something needs to change but I don't think it will this season.

Can you imagine what would have happened if some of our previous managers were allowed some input into it?

Paterson......draught Tennents on tap at the side of every pitch

Magoo.....A Celtic supporters club built  next door to the changing rooms

GWT........refit the Celtic Supporters Club as a nightclub with hot and cold running blondes and Viagra dispensers in the toilets

Kinda disappointed Brown and Paterson aren't more involved.

The rumours are starting to get created, and some kernals of truth may be in some ofthem.

One such rumour i was made aware of today was of Bruce Anderson making clear his dissatisfaction about the manager via xbox live of all things.

Playing PES or FIFA I'd imagine and was gobbing off about how McInnes has lost half the dressing room and the team pissed off about his reluctance to change the team and formation.

Could all be BS, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were now factions in what used to be a pretty tight knit dressing room.

My mate spoke to Derek after Livi game and said to him it's brutal to watch, need to change the formation, get 2 up top. Needless to say Derek wasn't amused and told him it's not as simple as that.

Your mate sounds like every middle aged man who thinks football should be 4-4-2. Very few teams play that formation nowadays. What needs to happen is whatever formation used, the players are encouraged to play along the ground and with a midfielder who drops off and dictates play, like Ryan Jack did. As others have pointed out, Joe Lewis has absolutely woeful distribution and this is also partly why we struggle so build from the back. He should be coached/encouraged to find the midfielder dropping off or a full back.

The main reason we aren't playing nice stuff is because generally our back 5 has poor distributors. Look at Ajer or Goldson vs McKenna and Devlin, no comparison. The recruitment McInnes has done does not lean towards nice football. Unfortunately, that puts us on a par with much of the league.

No offence, but that's horseshit.

you don't need Maldini, Miller and Baresi to play the ball out from the back.

Lose the next 3 games Hibs Mothetwell Celtic Milne and Cormack if you have the guts pay Mcinnes off. And make shankland an offer he won't refuse. Get a manager in if you know how to that will dump the ones who don't have the passion to give 100 percent each game. Get a manager in that will want his players to play attacking exciting football. Get a manager in that can sign players who want to play for Aberdeen and not just turning up to pick up a pay cheque . Last thing get your tight fisted hands in your pockets for the new manager whoever that may be to get the right players in.

Come on. For fuck sake, how the fuck you would you get to a professional level without being able to pass a ball.

Fair enough not everyone can see a defence splitting pass but they can all pass the ball other than just launching the thing 60 yards up the park.

McKenna and Devlin are not good passers.

Devlin isn't even a good defender.

Nope, but you do need someone brave and with even a wee bit of guile. We don't have that in any of our CB's.

In response to the defence distribution. They have no options. We have no idea if these guys can play out from the back as they haven't had the chance.

I've seen guys come short for them and they just launch it to a Cosgrove or Main. When Ojo played in Chikura and Hearts games and came and got the ball we looked a decent side.

If everyone in the crowd realise that our back 5 distribution is so shit, how come DMC still insists on lumping long balls to an isolated front man.

Either he instructs the players to stop lumping 50 yard passes or if he insists on continuing with hoofball, get at least one other player close to Cosgrove.

4-4-2 would help with the latter.

Its not as easy as that because so many teams play 5 men midfields.

No easy fix, but we haven't been good to watch for ages now so something must change.

You need everyone to move into space to play it out from the back.

I don't blame the centre halves who are clearly instructed to not play out from the back. They have no options because its not our game plan.

I don't blame them necessarily. They aren't those kind of centre backs. Poor recruitment. Still flame fatboy Derek.
