Greatest Goal Witnessed At Pittodrie

Recommended Posts

My two memories of that game was the Jess versus Carbone(?) face off in the media and the south stand being absolutely jammed.

Off to get the you tube to relive it. Was that the one we went 2 or 3 up and absolutely shat our pants?

Fuck sake. Had managed to forget about that deflection to go 3-2 down and also just what a cunt Carbone made of us on a wet pitch at Pittodrie. Still a hit from Rico though.

Any of Frank McDougall's four goals against celtic on 02/11/1985. The TV cameramen/women would have to pick that day of all days to go on strike, can't find any footage of it at all.

I was thinking that the Zoltan goal was only bettered by Hewitt against Bayern. Zoltan was a hell of a free kick specialist.

I have a couple of outstanding memories of Varga. The first was when I was with my old man at Pittodrie when we played Rangers and Zoltan had the ball right on the standside touchline. He was surrounded by three Rangers players including John Greig who went diving in with a sliding tackle which would have crippled Varga had he connected. Somehow Varga flicked the ball in the air and jumped over Greig's feet and then ghosted past the other two Huns. I remember looking up at my Da who winked at me and even the Rangers fans clapped in appreciation of his skill.

The second was a match, I forget the opposition, where Aberdeen were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Varga and Jim Hermiston were over it and Varga just flicked the ball in the air and Hermy caught it perfectly on the volley to score a wonder goal. He was definitely the most technically gifted player I have ever seen in an Aberdeen jersey.
