The Mckenna Dilemma

mckenna did nothing for AFC for a few seasons, the odd goal scored but turned like a tanker in the Atlantic Ocean. Getting 3 mill for him and hopefully more in his next transfer will be good.

I also agree with the fact about having the same opinion as mongo but well, there you go.

Mckenna was solid if not good almost every week.

Yes his original transfer request timing put him in a bad light etc . But he was clearly our best defender.

Correct.  He developed fairly consistently during his time here.  Young CB's are going to have ups and downs - he was clearly good player for us.

Have a look on Twitter now.  He's strolling it at Forest and their fans seem to love him.  He'll only get better too.  Still only 24 y/o... I reckon he'll get a run in the EPL before he retires.

Definitely. Id imagine he will get a move to the EPL in the next 18 months.

Even then we would still have some on here telling the world he is shite and always has been.

Agreed. His pace, strength and aerial ability will see him perform well down south. I don't think it's a coincidence that Forest's form has improved since he came back from injury.

If McKenna is a standout for forest what does that say about the team and the league they play in?

Agreed, good thing is we might actually capitalise on his sell on when he goes, the price central defending oafs go for down there is abysmal, Harry McGuire 60 million or something crazy like that and when you see the likes of epl Duffy, it’s surely a matter of time

The one thing the English do very well is big up their football and make it seem like their leagues are the holy grail of world football. It's black and white compared Doncaster up here, who probably couldn't even name a dozen Scottish teams after Celtic and Rangers.

The idea that the championship down there is miles above the level of the SPFL is laughable. Just wildly inflated with Sky money.

Aye that's fair comment.

Our lot only sell 4 games and 2 teams.

At least when Bt had a share of the contract they were forced to sell the other teams as they didn't have rights to the majority of the Hun and Celtic games.  Was refreshing for a while.

Pretty much confirms what most of us already knew.

That, if you take away a handful of teams and don't get excited about the salaries paid, the actual quality of football in that league is poor.

Most of teams in the championship are paying out more in wages than their whole turnover. While thing is like a Ponzi scheme.

Derby County didn't pay the players their full wage in December,  unlikely to for January either.

Quite a few, including myself, were happy with the deal we got for McKenna in the end.

In the end, the player wanted to leave... however, a lot of shouts that McKenna was well over-rated, etc, in the preceding pages... Revisiting this thread now, has anyone changed their mind - given the absolute shambles our defense has been since he left? @Millertime

His form went out the window for us after McInnes rushed him, also talk of a broken promise from the club which then had his agent running to the papers, that helped no one.

We were always going to miss him.

Whilst he's not the quickest he was easily the centre back with most pace in our squad as well as being the best passer of a ball.

We might get a sell on for him yet, the only thing that might put people off is his injury record. He's in and out with a lot of niggles over the course of a season.

He did quite well at Forest didn't he?

Hopefully an EPL club go in for him this summer.

He did well..........when he was fit.

Missed 2 large chunks of the season injured. Most of the Forest fans do seem to think that he was missed badly, especially the second time when he had established a decent partnership in central defence with Joe Worrall.

Can't see any EPL clubs looking to sign him this summer though, unless he manages to regain his starting spot in the Scotland side and has an absolutely barnstorming Euro's

Nothing we didn't already know

McKenna was good for Aberdeen. He was too good for us so moved to a team in a better league for more money. We were compensated with millions. Its all fairly straight forward stuff.
