Can an individual business like that take advantage of the furlough scheme off their own back, even with Aberdeen being in Level 2?

Yes.  There isn't really any barrier to using the scheme.  As long as you can show the employees aren't working at all, or are working a proportion of their usual hours, then you are eligible to use the scheme.  The only eligibility criteria noted on the government's website is that if your business' operations have been affected by Covid.  Who's hasn't?

My local announced new opening hours at the weekend, midweek would be closing at 8, open till 10 at weekends as usual. Yesterday they announced they're now closing down all together, for me this is a big flaw in the furlough system, granted they wouldn't have been making a lot of profit but no doubt enough to tick over. Now they're taking advantage of handouts. Imagine this will be replicated in loads of places, will be costing a fortune to keep it in place. Should be a last resort safety net. Had been busy outside at the weekends as well, lot of people put in the effort to sit in the freezing cold to support them, bad way to treat customers.

Zombie businesses man. No point throwing money at them if they are going to go down the tubes early next year anyway. There will be a reckoning at some point.

Yes. As it stands right now.

Especially given the backtracking being done this morning that furlough will only be available while England is in it's current "lockdown".

Interesting development down this way. The whole of Liverpool city to be offered ‘rapid’ testing. This at a time when case figures in Liverpool have started to decline, they want to go door to door to hunt down more of the covids to give the numbers a boost. The only benefit to this I guess is perhaps it might find the asymptomatic but I doubt the scousers will willingly comply.

Of course it will, the PM cannot be trusted. His response to Douglas Ross yesterday was obviously propaganda for the media. There is not a hope in hell the 80% furlough will be available in Scotland when its not on offer in England.

The PM is clearly trying to force Scotland into a lockdown, but great to see Scottish Government standing firm.

17 cases across Grampian today. That’s coming in line with highland numbers. Serious questions if the area doesn’t go in to a lower level come the review

Hopefully continues to go down.

Sturgeon saying she wants to keep seeing numbers get lower and not plateau.

Right enough though, can't keep us on level 2 with those kind of numbers. Is grampian including Moray? How did the numbers break down into city and shire?

17 was yesterday's number, I'm reading 30 today?

Regardless, numbers are still coming down overall week on week

Apologies the number is actually 30, I was reading yesterday’s. Not sure what the split is between shire/city it hasn’t been updated yet. I think moray is part of Grampian yes.

Absolutely no chance.

On the Nicky show today she again made a huge point that it's not just the stats she takes into account.

HER judgement makes the final decision.

...Exactly what she has been doing all along, like her friend down south.

They both have been hiding behind the usage of statistical data as well as scientific and medical advice, when ultimately, they both have been making their own egotistical decisions based on their own prejudicial subjectivity. Fuck them both?.
