I don't empathise with idiots. People placing too much emphasis on a religious festival belonging to a religion they don't believe in (let alone practise) and in the process enslaving themselves to the commercial and consumer agenda and getting into debt over it are special kinds of idiot.

The regulations hitting students right now are madness.

The religion in question being rampant commercialism?

Good point. Much as I despise the organised religions, the substitute agendas that have filled the void are equally if not more exploitative.

The void is still the problem, that the sheeple can't think and feel for themselves. They want to be led; The Lord is my shepherd. They want to be subjects; Long to reign over us.

Yup its true, if it's not the religion of spending (especially money people don't actually have) it's Social Media..........All Hail Zuckerberg and Bezos, the new Gods

There's a great quote that I can't remember right now about the importance of retaining the child within us.

Kate Bush?

Normally I'd agree with you Parky but for a lot of people you start saving for it, buying tickets home, generally looking forward to it now. It's reasonable in the circumstances to ask the question. I'm fucking skint and have no idea if I'm going to be working or not at Christmas so I'm planning on getting the nippers stuff shortly. Wanting to know if you are going to be allowed family round is fair enough.

Maybe celebrate Christmas for the true meaning rather than lavish gifts.

Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.

Simplicity conquers greed.

I'm talking about being allowed to spend time with loved ones(and getting pished) . What could be more in the spirit of Christmas than that?

I am bloody sick of all this balls they are coming out with.  Surely the PCR test is nae up to it.  Even the inventor of it said many times before his death it would not be suitable for what they are using it for.  i just try and avoid all news.  Anything i do hear is off this thread.

One of my mates said deaths in houses were way up.  Probably due to the fear driven into older people.  I am disgusted at seeing so many of them struggling walking with masks on.  Its awful.

I genuinely think the old are more terrified of COVID than they were of the Nazis.

Nobody's stopping you spending time with loved ones (nor getting pished) any day of the year. The "spirit of Christmas" is meaningless. Or at least whatever it was meant to mean should be abandoned on the grounds of fraudulent coercion or exploitative direction. It's like forced jollity or forced humanity. It's just wrong.

Och I know RS but I like Christmas. Boxing day is the best bit, along the pub with the dog to watch the futba, few jars, home steaming for turkey curry and second day roast tatties. Fucking superb.
