A former lover got in touch recently. Speaking away, she advised me to get this book of poems by a late pal of hers, Sean Bonney.

it arrived the other day. Poems mean fuck all go me, it's shit

if anyone wants it it's heading to a recycling bin in Rosemount

Obviously failed.....you failed pleasuring her miserably imho??

Shes sending a message from the dead..?

Sean boned her better than you??

I've just started re-reading Maribou Stork Nightmares by Irvine Welsh.

Not been reading as much as I used to. Need to get back to doing it daily.

I mind reading it years ago but don't think I finished it - disjointed pile of shite I seem to remember. But I don't rate Irvine Welsh on the whole - over-hyped, trying too hard to be gritty

Each to their own. I like his writing. Probably go back to The Acid House after this. Also just bought Allan Bisset's new(ish) book. Loved his "Boy Racers" when I was young and he's always been a good guy when I've bumped in to him in the pub.

Looking forward to that one.

I mind reading it years ago and thinking it was one of his best. Laughing out loud reading it.

Read that years ago, liked it at the time. Thing with Welsh’s books are they either grab you straight away or as RS says, you labour through them.

Porno has to be my favourite.

I loved 'Boy Racers' when I read it about 20 years ago. Need to download that again and give it a re-read.

Currently reading the new Stewart MacBride. Can't beat a good Scottish author. Been devouring Doug Johnstone's back catalogue recently which can be hit and miss. Big fan of Irvine Welsh and John Niven knocks out some good books.

He's an awful author.

Yeah of course. He's a prick in real life too. He did a book reading at the wife's school which I was unfortunate enough to attend.

A sanctimonious arsehole would be an able description of him.

Is he really?

Must say, he strikes me as that type. Reminds me a bit of the old poster from here 'A Don in Oz' they look very similar. Probably has a sex dungeon too.

As you say, he's never going to win the Booker Prize, but I think I like his books because they are set in Aberdeen and it's a nice easy read.
