For the return leg in Groningen next week I'd really like to see us use Hayes in his correct position. Hayes is one of our best attacking players. (However, fair play to him he's done good as a LB).

In the next leg, I believe that we will have to take advantage of our pace going forward on the counter attack through the likes of Pawlett, McGinn and Hayes.

It is most likely that we will be setting up with:

---------------- Rooney

McGinn ------------------------ Pawlett

-----------Robson ------- Flood
---------------------Jack

Hayes Reynolds Anderson Logan

------------------Langfield

What I think is that we need a team that can involve our three fast attacking players (Pawlett, McGinn and Hayes), in there preferred positions, as well as our more creative players (Jack, Robson and Flood).

With all I've said, I do see where McInnes is coming from in playing Hayes at Left Back. Probably so that he can deal with the oppositions wingers with pace.

So, what's our other LB candidates?

-Considine
-Robertson (if he can make it back in time)
-Reynolds
-Jack

-Considine - personally don't think he's quick enough but one of the strongest possible options.

-Robertson - Doubt he'll make it back in time from his injury, even if he does it's far too big of a stage to just throw him in at, also don't think that he's good enough anyway.

-Reynolds - Got the pace, however he is a crucial part of that central pairing. Couldn't afford to lose a player of his quality in the centre of our defence at a game of this high standard.

-Jack - Ryan also has the pace to cope with their wingers however is it too big of a risk to take such an important player out of the heart of midfield?

To me, Jack is our best option, he has played there plenty of times before and done a good job and I believe that he can do just that on Thursday night. Flood and Robson are easily good enough to control the midfield as we have all seen before.

So, another option is:

----------------- Rooney

-----------------Pawlett

Hayes ---Robson--- Flood--- McGinn

Jack Reynolds Anderson Logan

----------------- Langfield

However, is this too much of a risk? This is the kind of game where we are wanting to keep possession and knock the ball about in the middle of the pitch. So, also you'd be wanting to keep Jack there too! Keeping possession but also trying to pack and boss the midfield. I'm guessing that Groningen will have the same thought.

If you're going to play Jack in defence it would have to be at rb with Logan at lb.

I'd go with Logan @ LB and Jack at RB.

I think last night highlights the need for a Left Back… Mr Shinnie please stand up… Hayes needs to be on the left wing...

PeePaw, McGinn and Robson all took turns on the left side, right side, up the middle last night and didn't really have much luck… It's becoming a real problem.

Also I hate to say it but I think the 4-2-3-1 is becoming very predictable, I think teams have figured us out and how to break us down. Certainly at least spoiling tactics… We need a plan B… Do we have one ?

Been saying this for months. Can we at least have it in our locker to switch to a 4-4-2 when things aren't going our way please?

I would agree. A Left back must be sought. Hayes too good further up field Robertson is simply pish. Considine is a centre back and far too slow at LB. roll on next week. A trip to Spain would be lovely. Dos calypo limon por favor

Or the other option is my favoured defensive line, 3 at the back!

Jack was rubbish last night, haven't got enough digits to count how many times he gave the ball away! The ones he did complete were lateral or back the way.

We'll play the same XI (and probably even the same 18).

It'll be tough but we'll try to defend well and look to take any chances when they come

If we do lose a goal we must remember the Scottish Cup Quarter Final at Parkhead and thus keep the faith.

I back us to score, it's how much we'll conceed that I am not sure about

We get a bad rep in Scotland for unhealthy food - have you seen Dutch cuisine? I'm surprised they're not all rolly poly walking heart attacks.

I'll be stuffing my moo full of bitter ballen unt crocketen over there - dake viel!

2-0 the dandies - the bounce will be epic.

Would go with the exact same line up that started last night.

I could see reasoning behind Considine playing left back because I don't think pace will be as much of an issue if we sit deeper and they have two tall lads down their right hand side. McInnes will not change things though because last nights starting 11 have the most match sharpness and Hayes has done a fine job at left back.

No danger that jack will be moved to defence. Logan had their left winger in his pocket so pointless moving him and jack is too important to us at picking the ball up off the back four and getting things moving.
