Possible Tactic Changes

Recommended Posts

What we’re doing now. Get that defence gelled. Three across the middle, probably Ferguson, Gleason and Shinnie. GMS (the can be arsed one) and McGinn (the better be fucking arsed one) try Anderson in the middle till we sort out Wilson. Ball and Consi to manage out games, Cosgrove for the physical job and Wright and Ross once they’re tired.

Still got Hoban in reserve. Plus the youngsters.

He might go 352 when everyone is fit.

He toyed with it last year but made a mess of it because he didn't have the right players.

I think he's got the wrong mix of players to get the best out of his favoured 4231 now.

It depends who he plays in a 3-5-2. If it means the likes of GMS and McGinn as wing backs it's a waste of time in my opinion as you don't get anywhere near the best out of them and GMS is currently our best attacking player. But I do think we now have the players to give playing 3 at the back a go. Below is how I'd like to see us line up (3-4-1-2).

Lewis

Devlin Hoban McKenna

Logan Shinnie Ferguson Lowe

GMS

Anderson Wilson

GMS in behind the strikers I think he has the pace, trickery, skill and vision to play there like a better version of Pawlett. McGinn could also play in that position or as a main striker alongside Wilson. The team I've shown doesn't include the likes of Gleeson or Forrester but they've not shown enough yet to warrant a guaranteed starting place.

McInnes needs to try 2 up front as our lack of goals from open play is chronic. We're currently just too predictable in his tried and tested 4-2-3-1.

Aye that's the kinda line up I'd like to see if he played 352. More a 343 if you like.

Id have exactly the same team as you in the same positions except I'd like to see McGinn up front alongside Wilson.

I suspect McInnes would lose one of the attacking 3 and play a Ball or a Gleeson instead though in a more defensive 352

Just have some cunt run with the ball from deep but through the middle, a la Pawlett in 2014 when he was good.

Teams hate it, it’s hooringly difficult to defend against and if nothing else would make us a whole lot less predictable.

Like Scotty Wright did in the number 10 role when he and Frank Ross played really in the St Mirren game.

I like this, 2 up front with a creative player behind them (I've been banging that drum for weeks now).

I'd try the swapping in Mcginn for GMS and May for Anderson from the bench to see if playing in a formation that suits him might actually awaken the sleeping Stevie May and to give McGinn a chance in that central creative role (He'd do goals from there too, possibly more than GMS would),

I'd also like to see a more basic 41212 but not sure we have the players to support it,

Yeah, that works for me too, 4-3-3, with Logan and Lowe bombing up the wings.

Ball in for Fergie this weekend,  and then once Fergie retuns, Shinnie goes to left back, so a midfield 3 of Gleason, Ball and Fergie, and then Wilson in for Anderson once the former returns

Since we've basically played without a center mid since McLean and the Rat fucked off, just adopt the Wimbledon tactics of the 80s.

Keeper smashes the ball into their final third, and one of the four forwards heids it into the net.

Sorted.

I'm not against the long ball game in principle and as you point out Wimbledon were successful with it under Joe Kinnear and so were Watford under Graham Taylor. The problem for us using that tactic is we do not have a Dean Holdsworth or Luther Blissett type capable of holding the ball up, outmuscling defenders and scoring their fair share of goals. Young Cosgrove has a long way to go yet, Wison has yet to show anything in his brief appearances, May is fucked and Anderson is not being given nearly enough game time. To be successful in the long ball game we absolutely had to sign Moult and I am still furious we did not push the boat out to get him. The long and short of it is we do not have a decent number ten to play our front men in if we are to employ the passing game and we do not have the right type of striker for the long game. Fucked either way.
