from evening express

Aberdeen today completed the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali until the end of the season.

The Dons completed the move for the 21-year-old Nigerian this morning at their warm winter training camp in Dubai.

A Nigerian U20 international Nwakali won the U17 World Cup in 2013 and was recently on loan at Norwegian top flight side Sogndal Fotball.

Nwakali was on Manchester City’s tour of the USA in July and also signed a one-year contract extension with the Premiership leaders last summer.

The midfielder had previously been on loan at Norwegian side Start and also spent time on loan at Spanish side Malaga B.

Dons boss Derek McInnes moved quickly to replace midfielder Greg Tansey who has joined Ross County on loan until the end of the season.

Nwakali’s younger brother Kelechi, 19, is currently at Arsenal.

Aberdeen jetted out to the United Arab Emirates from Glasgow on Tuesday, arriving in the early hours of today.

However Nwakali was not on the flight as he arrived separately to meet up with the Reds squad at their hotel in the Jebel Ali area of the city,

Dons boss McInnes has now added to new players to his squad in the January transfer window.

He secured the return of Northern Ireland international Niall McGinn on a three-and-a-half year deal until summer 2021.

McGinn, 30, had been a free agent having terminated his contract with South Korean side  Gwangju.

Midfielder Nwakali is the latest loan signing McInnes has taken in from the English top flight.

He secured keeper Danny Ward from Liverpool during in the first half of the 2015-16 campaign.

The world outside Scotland makes me love the scottish game more and more. Good solid 10's of thousands transfer fees; no frills - good honest solid realism, with a squeeze of hate and a smidge of daring to dream.

The Dons are a joy to support.

One loaned out, one loaned in. Straight swap on this one I reckon.

Surely better than Tansey on the form Tansey is in just now.

This is the maximum number of loans allowed now. Not sure how it works as well as were only allowed 2 players on loan over the age of 21(Stewart & Christie). Dom Ball turned 22 the day after he signed for us so is probably allowed to stay. Any other transfers now must be permanent deals unless any of the loan deals were to change to permanent or be terminated.

Ball will perhaps be told he's surplus to requirements and sent back to Rotherham. Because he is.

This one is out of contract in summer though so probably with a view to being permanent if he does well. Not likely to get in the city team soon.

Hopefully he is decent as defensive midfield role definitely needed filled and he also can play right back so can cover for and compete with Shay too.

I can't see Ball leaving. The loan deal can likely only be terminated by Rotherham. Now he can't go to any other team this season so for them to terminate it would mean they want him back to play which is unlikely. We will also be paying a chunk of his wages, so Rotherham won't want to take him back to sit on the bench or the stands paying him his full wage. I'd say were stuck with him till the end of the season.

To be honest I would rather have a decent loan signing short term than be stuck with a poor permanent signing

Has better get used to the club utilising the loan system more and more. Its the only realistic way of taking in players that are better than what we currently have and otherwise couldnt normally afford. Unless of course we develop our own.
Christie , Stewart and Ball will all be gone in summer. Like for like replacement are all likely to be loans.

We took him on loan for the full season though and its very unlikely they will be willing to cancel his loan as their manager doesn't rate him either.  And as he had already played for Rotherham in the EFL cup he isn't allowed to play for anyone else other than us or them this season.

No big deal imo him being on loan. We are allowed 4 loan players of which 2 have to be under 21 which (I think) we have.

Loans are the future (unfortunately) for most non elite clubs.

I'd like us to get another 1 or 2 of ours players out to clubs down the food chain (Wright especially needs games).

Need a left back (which will now have to be a permanent signing obviously) and we'll be in decent shape.

Nwakali is a holding midfiled player according to the beeb. So you'd actually see him as more a replacement for Ball than for Tansey.

A permanent signing in midfield with Ball being sent back to Rotheram would be nice.

Just wondering if getting a work permit could be an issue as the transfer is subject to him getting one.

I seem to remember in the past that players had to have played a certain number of games for their national team before they were given one and if not it had to go to an appeal panel who made a judgement on individual cases. Not sure if the work permit rules have changed in recent times or if its different for younger development players.

The club tweeted announcing the signing around 20min ago but it has since been deleted, not sure if this is maybe an issue?

Tansey is a holding midfielder.

Don't agree with that and I suspect he would disagree too. He likes to be a deep lying playmaker but his game is most definitely not about sitting and holding in front of the back 4 or trying to make tackles and breaking up play.
