Maribor drew 2-2 with Domzale tonight

From 2-0 up and nearly chucked it at the last minute. 7 changes from Thursday night, they're shite.

What are the actual decisions for the team lines on Thursday?

Keeper - Lewis has shown he is better than Brown/Collin obviously but jury out on him keeping Alexander on the bench for the full season. No way will there be a change in the meantime however.

Defence - I don't think he'll mess with the back four:

Consi - played left back in Groningen and Rijeka

Taylor - may be a complete liability but if we go Reynolds/Consi we start worrying about losing a lot more physical challenges

O'Connor - not the time to throw in a newbie

Shinnie - played centre mid in Rijeka

Logan - is almost the first name on the team sheet at the moment

Midfield - clearly McGinn and Hayes must play as they are capable of producing a moment of brilliance. Hayes doubly so included for his work rate

Jack has been coming onto a game again and as captain is clearly playing

Shinnie has not been such a stand out as he was in the first six months but a good player to get in the midfield and trust to raise his game

Rooney has 3 goals and 2 assists from last five games so would be stunned if he doesnt start although he is not as certain a starter as the 9 above.

So Lewis, Logan, Taylor, Reynolds, Considine, Jack, Shinnie, Hayes, McGinn & Rooney leaves one spot left

Either O'Connor, McLean or Stockley

If we go 4-4-2 its clear that it is Stockley

If we go 4-5-1 we could choose to have O'Connor as the most defensive of a Jack/O'Connor/Shinnie midfield - probably the least likely of the options

Alternatively McLean in the middle with Jack and Shinnie is not quite so defensive and you would hope McLean can get back to his best from last season.

Finally 4-5-1 could also be Stockley with Rooney starting on the wing and Hayes moved into central midfield.

Decision for McInnes to mull over

Ideally you want to go 4-5-1 to keep the pressure on, to hopefully get the goal and then crowd out their midfield as they try to build for an equaliser.

It depends on how Maribor play it. If they try to sit in for a nil nil as their most recent euro tie history would suggest they will then magic. They get pummelled by constant pressure off a 4-5-1, which will play more like a 4-3-3 to which we can then add more forwards as time goes on depending on the score. If Derek thinks Maribor will do this he might even chance the pittodrie 4-4-2 from the get go. Our problem is if they do what they did at half time to us and take the game to us, pinning our full backs back (Logan in particular) and isolating the front three/four. I thought their 39 was a dangerous wee fecker from the moment he came on. Then we're chasing a goal and keeping it tight at the back. Neither is our strongpoint!

hows jury out on lewis?

that save with his left, down to the corner was enough in itself to prove hes a player

was convicned that was in when it was struck

jury is out on him in terms of him being better than Alexander or not. As said clear he is better than Brown/Collin

Maribor play the same way regardless of home/away. Sit back, wait for a chance and then take said chance. For some strange reason the fans think this style of football is acceptable, even if it means going the entire first half without a shot at goal. Something they did three times at home last season. We CAN win this but it's a case of score two and we're through I think.

From last Thursday showing they offer very little down the flanks. We just need to stop them playing through the middle. If only we had Anderson still playing. I think Flood may have been handy against this kind of opposition. Continually harassing the midfield giving them no time.

Our Midfield really need to bust a gut and give them no time on the ball, all closing down players as one or they will just play through us again with their quick and precise passing. I think we need to sacrifice Rooney or Stockley to have an extra midfielder. Close them down and track the runner and see no reason why we cant stop them scoring if not keeping it to one goal. I can see us scoring as their number 4 was way worse than any of our central defenders.

Hays and or McGinn on fire and we can f#cking do this.
