Can we afford to take on a player at say £2.5k per week for 3 years even if he’s on a free?
£130k per year?
I’m not so sure.
Derek seemed pretty direct yesterday when he said “we can’t look to sign anyone” at the moment.

I agree, however if we are going to sign anyone it'll only be those two. Even if we don't sign Leigh or Cerny I feel our team is still the third strongest in the the league. This season was a write off and I think we would have finished third had the season continued.

Motherwell have lost a few key players and have released a statement that they will not be signing anyone this season. They will be looking to youth this coming season. Killie are also in the same boat and Hearts are out of the league.

Most players that are out of contract across all the teams will be released & not offered anything.
I’m sure Celtic would’ve offered Hayes & Simunovic a contract in normal times.
Just the way it’s going to be.
And I agree, the likes of Motherwell will likely regress a bit as they’ll replace the experienced ones with young players.
We won’t because we don’t really have to other than left back maybe.
The young lad MacKenzie gets good write ups in the development team.

Might be the making of Motherwell. They've got a really good crop of youngsters coming through

Derek made it very clear on the radio yesterday that we are not in a position to sign anyone. He also said we will be going forward with a smaller squad.

The Northern Lights of old Aberdeen

Mean home sweet home to me

The Northern Lights of Aberdeen

Are what I long to see

I've been a wanderer all of my life

And many a sight I've seen

God speed the day when l'm on my way

To my home in Aberdeen!!

Loads of folk hate the idea of him returning but I would be happy to have him back.
He would still be a stand out player in our team & that is all that matters.
Him & Kennedy on our left, maybe with Hayes more as left back/overlapping sometimes would be pretty good.

Doubt we will sign him but if any other team in the SPFL gets him then they will definitely be better off for it.

I reckon he's a good chance of coming here... as mentioned his wife is from the north.  He was pretty settled here before he left.  No guarantees, at 32 y/o, that he'll get another big contract down south...

Never understood why footballers get married. Plenty £ and due to status, can have a revolving door of women. Why limit yourself

I'd imagine Hayes' limiting factor is his coupon..
