strachanmcgheegoal
Tend to agree. It’s frustrating because unlike some of them he has a decent mix of sporting awareness (albeit grounded in ruggerball), a brain and healthy realism. He just seems to choose to hide it and then come in for low fruit stories like this. Certainly not on the same attention seeking plane as say a Sutton or Savage. Link to comment

The real Tom English is beginning to show now that Celtic are making a cunt of things. Link to comment
Foster14
Tom English was a right prick about the St Mirren celebrations on staying up. Players keeping their jobs, securing another season in the top flight after a tough season and he says they celebrated too much. Seemed like the fans were, why shouldn't the players? Link to comment

Lineker and Ferdinand etc were unprofessional, celebrating a fantastic Messi goal against Barca off camera. BT decided to show it. He sits in the same studio as Pat Bonner during Celtic games for fucks sake. Link to comment
Clydeside_Sheep
That exit was more tragic than anything the men's side have ever managed. They did well but totally collapsed at the end. I was drawn into watching the game, it was a more interesting than I thought. Some of the players were quite attractive and it was not two teams full of "Ruth Davidsons" as I had imagined The standard is pretty poor right enough, easy to see why the women's international teams get hammered by local boys clubs etc. Defending (to use the term loosely) is either totally static, or all defenders converge on the ball carrier (like a primary school game). The time the Argies hit the bar with a header, our full back didn't even jump for the ball. At half time the commentator criticised her positioning, but - amazing - not the fact she failed put a challenge in (even just to put the attacker off). Tackling is largely absent from the game, with possession changing mainly due to loose passing. Shooting is powder puff, but the goal keeping is the worst. Putting a stuffed gonk between the sticks would be about as effective. Women's sport should be prominent / well funded etc - but you wonder why the TV companies don't fund eg hockey or netball. Women's rugby or football will always be a very poor 2nd to men's, so why not show something different, they don't always need to copy what men do? There would be the added bonus of giving the consumer more choice and raising interest in other sports. Link to comment
Foster14
Always felt like he discusses things as if he has a superiority over both the people he is discussing it with and the audience. Really sanctimonious. Never wrong. Link to comment
maryhilldon
Why would you stand behind the line?So you can take a step forward to plant your foot before diving without encroaching. Link to comment
maryhilldon
Referee in the wifies match was horrendous too...that's what you get when you let women referee football. She was a nutcase! What a fuckin drama she made of the penalty, spending 5 mins pointing and shouting at the Scotland players about not encroaching like she was running a Japanese POW camp. That late in the game it would've been worth the card to tell her to fuck off out of your face. Link to comment

shut up meg
if the mens team had lost a 3 goal lead with 15 minutes to go, the manager would have probably be gone by now.Looking at the BBC website, it appears at first glance that there is not one piece of criticism on the manager.Equality my arse! BWG
From what I've seen of their games, the manager doesn't have a clue. Give Yogi Hughes the job. Link to comment
thedandydon
It was a pretty farcical ending but should never have pegged back going into the last few minutes anyway. Manager as much to blame as the players in my book as should have tried to see it out at 3-0 given the importance of getting the win. Saying that, refereeing was honking. Probably was a pen but retake was harsh and then they failed to indicate how much added time there was. Fannyed about for a good 8-10 minutes with the pen incident. Scots were definitely hard done by with VAR in all 3 games and over officious refs. God help us if it gets introduced in all top level fitba! Link to comment
SheepieBaaBaa
Why would you stand behind the line?To prevent any suggestion of being "over the line". Having to be stood statuesque exactly on the line is potentially worse than being behind it....but looks liek that isnt allowed anyway. I don't think this is an issue with VAR as such by the way, but poor refereeing. I've seen photos that certainly appear to suggest that there was at least some suggestion that the goalie had 1 foot stil on the line. After a keeper makes a double save on a penalty, Any half decent ref. would givevthebkeeper the benefit of the doubt. Having spent at least 10 minutes reviewing VAR on top of other stoppages, to only ad on 2 minutes or so is ludicrous. And let's not forget the fact that Scotland were half way through a substitution when Argentina took their free kick. VAR could work perfectly well but has to be used appropriately by competent officials, which doesnt bode well for the SPFL. Link to comment
maryhilldon
Used to be all for VAR, not so sure now. It's taking away the spontaneous joy of a goal, not being sure if it's going to get called back or not. Link to comment

Betty Swallicks
The Scotland manager (something Kerr) should be sacked.Blame the ref or VAR all she likes but 3-0 with 20mins to go and blowing it is pathetic. Glad we're oot tbh. Coverage was bonkers. Link to comment
BWG
There was nothing at all hyperbolic about making a TV show called "Scotland's Heroes" because a wifies team made it to the finals of a third rate competition and if you think otherwise then you're a misogynist. Link to comment

thedandydon
It was highly amusing game that's for sure, for all the wrong reasons. referring atrocious again, couldn't make a decision hence VAR brought in to play multiple times. Can kind of understand the Cameroon frustrations when they had their goal chalked off. Without VAR that would be given 99 times out of 100 as it was such a marginal decision running away from goal, most linesmen (lineswomen? linespeople?) would have missed it in real time. To go off greeting to their manager afterward was funny though, ref didn't have a scooby. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
Visible demonstration of the problem with VAR. as soon as you get a ref who becomes scared to make a decision and instead starts to rely on VAR you end up with the clusterfuck of that game. Essentially you need a strong ref prepared to make a decision who is equally strong enough to cope if the VAR room calls “eh no, hud on.” One of the fundamental problems we’ll have is refs won’t like being called out to be wrong when in fact that’s one of its key roles.
