#1854093 Mcinnes

another couple wins and mcinnes will be back in business

Considering all the injuries we have endured this season we are doing well to be sitting 1 point behind 3rd and 4 points ahead of 5th. Thats a 3-0 win against both Motherwell and Killie who are most likely our main competitors for third this season.

If the majority of players were available we would have never lost 5-0 to The Rangers (look at the makeshift side that day) and would have beaten Hearts in the cup.

Last season was frustrating because we had a similar injury crisis. Lewis, McKenna, Wilson, GMS, Logan, Devlin, Gleeson, the fiasco with Forrester, McGinn, McLennan, Ross, Hoban out for large parts of the season - it allowed Ferguson, McLennan and Campbell to get first team action but it also resulted in the signing of Greg Halford. I'd argue we'd have finished third and pushed The Rangers for 2nd had we had more players available.

Look at Hearts this season. They have been plagued with injuries. Thats the real reason they are bottom of the table otherwise they'd be up there challenging ourselves for third and levein would still be in a job.

#1843111 Aberdeen 1 - 1 Hibernian

Posted by CalgaryDon on 06 October 2019 - 06:30 PM

I thought Main caused them a lot of problems and was a handful throughout. Ross was poor but he barely received the ball due to the long ball tactics. Campbell was ok but I don't think he's currently good enough for the first team. Our centre mid has been non existent since Bryson and Ojo got injured and thats why we are playing hoofball at the moment. Things will get better once the players are back. McKenna was rusty but he made a difference to the team.

Jack Ross would be my choice. A young manager. He did very well at both Alloa and St Mirren. He nearly got Sunderland promoted at his first attempt from League 1.

I see Hibs are being linked with him.

Two years ago we finished 2nd ahead of The Rangers (who spent over 10 million on their squad that summer).

Last season McInnes lost half his squad in the summer yet still reached the league cup final and the semi final of the Scottish cup (both took Celtic to beat us) and finished 4th only by goal difference (Kilmarnock's highest points tally ever). Kilmarnock also had a great amount of fortune on their side: The penalty awarded (was a dive) to them on the last day of the season, the Devlin sending off against Killie, etc. We also had an injury crisis last season from December onwards (GMS, Devlin, Gleeson, Wilson, Logan, Lewis etc all out for large parts of the season). I don't disagree that 4th isn't good enough for Aberdeen but you can't excuse these circumstances.

We are currently 2 points behind 3rd having already played 3 of the top 6 from last season. We were incredibly unfortunate to lose to Hearts on Wednesday and I'd argue we deserved to win (Keena handled the ball for their equalizer). No excuse for the penalties. Yesterday was painful to watch. We have no midfield and that comes down to injuries.

I think we'll beat Hibs at PittordrIe next week. Everyone will have returned from injury after the international break (apart from Wright and Ojo), things will settle down and we'll move back up the table. We have a strong side and I'd still believe its the strongest we've had to date with McInnes. Injuries are the issue not McInnes.

#1836864 Livingston 0 - 2 Aberdeen

Posted by CalgaryDon on 21 September 2019 - 06:54 PM

Fantastic three points however we really miss Bryson and Ojo. The midfield really struggled today. Bartley was bossing us around and Lawless was superb for them.

McGinn was atrocious. Main had no service. Gallagher isn't good enough for this league let alone Aberdeen. McLennan is really struggling at the moment. Why is Wilson not playing?!

Devlin has been our best player in recent matches. Considine has done well too although I'll be happy to see Mckenna back. I really like Vyner - much better than Logan. Apparently McKenna and Taylor should be back after the international break.

#1824783 Dundee 1 - 2 Aberdeen

Posted by CalgaryDon on 20 August 2019 - 01:31 AM

The Europa League exertions last Thursday clearly had an effect on our team. The players looked exhausted on Sunday. Dundee being at home gave them an advantage. They appear to have strengthened over the summer. We didn't play well and were fortunate to scrap through but we did. I actually believe being knocked out of Europe was for the best. It has such a detrimental effect on our domestic duties. Still we beat Dundee away and Hearts at home. Shame about the St Mirren result. The players can rest up this week and focus on the Killie game next week.

I see Hearts fans are adamant they'll beat us in the quarter finals. Already discussing who'll they'll get in the next round!

Everytime we lose everyone freaks out. We'll turn it around. Remember we should have had a penalty and a goal that should have stood. We made too many changes on Sunday but it was understandable given our current schedule.

#1796572 Summer Transfer Window 2019

James Wilson can be a star for us. Just needs to be confident. The final few matches against Celtic, hearts and Hibs he played very well and showed he can be a difference. Been a good summer so far.

#1782476 Ash Taylor

I was disappointed when Taylor initially left and don't think this is nearly as bad a signing as folk are making out. Was our best defender during his previous time here. He'd start for most squads in the SPL outside of Celtic. Will most likely play in a rotational role and is an upgrade on Reynolds and Hoban (albeit because he was injury prone).

Just realized he scored 9 goals for us during his previous spell - his height at set pieces will be an asset.

#1780420 Transfers News For The Inferior Teams

Posted by CalgaryDon on 30 May 2019 - 05:56 PM

Hibs have signed defender Adam Jackson from Barnsley and Scott Allan from Celtic. Looking to sign Marc McNulty on a permanent basis along with Dylan McGeouch. They have also received cash from a promotion clause inserted in the deal that took John McGinn to Aston Villa.

Hearts are set to sign Naismith on Monday.

And we are set to sign Main.  :suicide:
