The Mckenna Dilemma

Recommended Posts

I've read some articles on the whole situation, and I can see how things aren't exactly clear. The rules are too open to bias from the looks of things. But if Morelos qualifies a lot of players do.

So I feel like I have got to throw a name out that easily meets the requirements, is available on a free transfer, and fits in the budget. It's unfair to criticize small budget teams for being fiscally responsible.

So Auston Trusty, I'm not sure if he could get that permit. I feel like based on some of the other players the answer should be yes, but I can't say for sure.

So moving on, I would say Richard Sanchez is in many ways the ideal talent for Aberdeen. He's a Midfielder (22 years old) and he's seen as much experience with his national team as Morelos with Colombia (one game). His club in Paraguay is doing very well. Arsenal has been scouting him.

The downside is he is on a long term deal with Olimpia and a transfer fee would have to be negotiated. If Mckenna moves the budget should be there, but I can't say for sure the cost.

So moving on to Johan Venegas. He's got 5 goals in 7 games for Saprissa. I've been to Costa Rica, and considering the size of the country they do very well developing football players and their league is solid. He is 29 and his deal is up this winter. Is he an exciting young prospect that Aberdeen can sign, develop, and flip? No, and that's the most ideal. But he would be better than any other player on the roster to fit with Shinnie in the midfield. And he'd likely be thrilled if he could keep earning what he was in MLS. He and Minnesota Utd didn't get along after his trade from the Impact, and Aberdeen is a better option for him than Saprissa.

Outside of a vet like Venegas there are lots of prospects coming up in smaller countries that have National Team experience that according to what I read should be able to obtain a permit. Some exciting prospects I'm not so sure if they'd get it.

Ecuador does have a 19 year old center back who has been called up named Exon Vallecilla. Granted I know nothing about him, but he seems like someone you'd want to scout.

Sticking with Ecuador they have a 22 year old midfielder with a handful of matches with the NT, and he transferred last winter to the Lobos in Mexico. He got 2 goals and 3 assists in the spring for the Lobos. They aren't a big budget team in Mexico. It probably would have been more ideal for him to transfer from Ecuador directly to Aberdeen. But after a Mckenna transfer they'd have the funds for prospects like Gabriel Cortez.

So that's my point here, and I do think it's on topic regarding a Mckenna transfer. If you use those funds to find good prospects that money can snowball as you improve the team overall. Or at least get some vets like Venegas who could be had on a free transfer and plugged into the lineup in January.

I’m heading there in November. If the club fancy, i’ll get their bank details and sign him up on the spot.

I like Pond Hopper.

Much of what he says makes sense and is delivered with reasoned opinion and considered thinking.

Sniping at him for having different ideas is nae a good look.

I like the effort he's put in, seems nice enough, but could you point me to the "reasoned opinion and considered thinking." Cheers.

It is true but it does feel his long winded posts are probably not suited to afc chat?

Ive been doing basketball forums since the 90s probably. The analytics and advanced stat break down posts are crazy long. Sorry i dont just make homo jokes. Is it really me or your adhd? ;)

I felt like costa rica was overrated. Personally, I prefer Mexico and Colombia. Food is not good in CR and restaurants are over priced.

Thanks pal. That’s the fucking holiday ruined now then...

Rice, plantains, and beans at the local sodas. No flavor. The chain restaurants cost more than the states. The beach should be just fine though. If you are single and looking for the best bars and clubs I can help you there.

If you want the best beach, Colombia has a beautiful island east of Nicaragua called San Andres.

Bobo's point is that if team A comes in and offers a certain amount of money, say 7 million, it doesn't necessarily mean that team B will come in and offer more if the initial 7 mil bid has been accepted. They'll likely offer 7 as well

How would that conversation go though?

"Can we have him for 7mill?"

"No"

"Ok....how about 7mill then?"

"Erm.....no...."

"Can that other team have him for 7mill?"

"No"

"In that case how does 7mill sound? Final offer"

"are you taking the fucking piss?"....click....dial tone.

If a figure is accepted by the club. It is down to the player in question to then decide which club he goes to.

If we want 7mil & one club offers 6 & another offers 7. We can tell 6m club to fk off. We may risk having an unhappy player on our hands but that's the risks you take.

If we seem happy to accept 7m then only an arse cheek type club would then try & hijack the deal & offer less than the club already willing to pay agreed fee by offering more wages & using media pressure to fk the selling club out of money by trying to effectively bribe the player & get him to force the selling club to accept less.

Standard stuff for arse cheek type clubs though tbf

Given that in my example the bid was accepted, no, it wouldn't go like that.

Sorry, didn't see that preamble to the statement.

I was going by the fact that we haven't accepted 7mill.

In the theoretical case that we were to accept 7million, another club could indeed match that offer and it would then be a negotiation on personal terms with the player.
