Scotland vs Russia/Belgium

A bit of perspective is needed I suppose as they do have a great team. However we still do not do things right at the grass roots level.

Fucking Dad’s screaming at kids to get stuck in, shite pitches, launching long balls.

Never going to change overnight but population has fuck all to with it , if you teach kids to play technically then you might get a few world class players.

How much grassroots football do you watch?  I help coach my loons 2009 team and vast majority of teams try and play it on the deck.  Might be different when they get a bit older

A lot albeit it’s two girls I have so don’t get to see as many louns football but I do go to watch my mates son most Saturday mornings.

Doesn’t look to have changed much from when I played. Direct aggressive football. If you are seeing encouragement to play to feet, keep the ball I’m glad to hear it but I don’t see it the games I watch.

Remember a few moons back my son playing boys football on an all weather pitch at Inverurie, really good technique game predominantly played on the deck.

Contrast that with another game he played at Oldmeldrum on a slope, where ball spent most of time in orbit and my son ended up in A & E with injured tendon in his ankle.

In other words if we improve the facilities on offer we may have an opportunity to improve the game at grassroots.

There's so much wrong with football in our country its beyond repair, it even looks like the tartan army just there for the piss up cant even be arsed any more.

Our National League is a crap monopoly of 1 team and hasn't been excitingly competitive since the 90s.

Amatuer football is played at the same time as our national league (people who play football are likely to be more interested in going if they weren't playing).

Think a lot of the reason Scotland are so behind also has to do with the fact that at 11 years old we shift kids from a small 7 a side pitch and small goals straight to full size, this encourages hoofball and all the heefer loons that grow quicker at 13 get ahead and are caught up by the time they're 18/19 by the rest and everyone is shit.

All this and the fact the SFA are a genuinely laughable organisation that can't even get basic things right like organising dates of semi finals sums it up.

It should be but we are insistent on being physical rather than technical. Best teams in the world at club level have quick players that one touch pass, even the goalkeepers.

The “coaches” I see at young kids level seem stuck in the let’s get in about mentality rather quick passing and movement, but I’m not sure the solution as it’s ultimately just Dad’s who mean well.

Should maybe have to do some sort of basic course for an hour or so to coach any form of football and the SFA can give some guidelines on how best to train kids like other countries do. Sure most folk would welcome it.

I think when you first get involved in coaching/helping out then you can be an enthusiastic volunteer for a short time but you do need to acquire basic qualifications. Early touches is the basic level and is a 1 day course. Don’t think there is a pass/fail at any level until you get to C licence mind you.

So you can work your way through most of kids/youth football badges just by turning up for a day or a weekend. Perhaps if there was the pass/fail element at each level it would raise the bar on standard of coaches.

I did the C licence course a few years ago and it’s a commitment to attend for 5 days and then be assessed. Not cheap either, and then moving onto the B licence UEFA is ridiculously expensive for people that are essentially volunteers for the most part.

Every ball playing team needs one of the afore mentioned “wee dicks.” We then decide and actively promote that a 6 foot dick is better than a wee dick and therefore 11 6 foot dicks must surely be better again. And lo we have the current Scotland line up. 11 massive dicks.

Chuck in a bunch of turkeys leading them and a national pitch provision that isn’t fit for purpose....

This is not really sounding like a recipe for success is it?

A whole generation have grown up barely ever seeing a Scotland game on telly (unless their parents subscribe to Sky). But they get to see England games on free-to-air. Embarrassing from the SFA again, does any other country in the world only broadcast their biggest rivals games on national telly?. Hardly inspiring future generations to take an interest is it?

Definitely a point.

I can't help feel sorry for a lot of young lads who literally can't afford to see football cos sky have made it such a rip off.

Mind you, all the current generations have grown up with access to free football and they're shite?

Back in the day there wasn’t a lot of Scotland games on tv either . Boys just played 4 times a day , every day ,because we loved it and because there was nothing much else .

That's the secret, we need to get back to the days when there was nothing much else. We've never produced the same quality of player since the slums were cleared. I'm surprised the austerity of the last 10 years hasn't got us to playoff at least.

The Scottish game is wrecked.  Those in charge are those that can make a change - but they're not going to vote for anything that risks their easy life.

I'm quite glad that Scotland are fucking up. My letter to the SFA when relinquishing my long-standing membership with them has probably ensured I'll never get a ticket again if things were to turn around and I fancied going.

The focus on the disgusting pair of clubs closest to their hearts compounds the issue.  A breakaway by all other clubs would work more quickly than anything else, but there is not the bottle or appetite for it.

Totally agree about a breakaway.

And that it will never happen.

It's crazy really when you consider we could have the same 2 teams win our league for 50 years in a row and the other clubs will barely blink.
