Just entered the (ballot for the) Great North Run.

£52 is a SMA rip-off.

I've got a certificate for finishing it a few years back, but I definitely didn't do it.

What is the ballot based on , track records or is it like a lottery draw?

What is the prize money like for places and can you offer to pay £65 instead to bribe your way in ?

Spartan Super race tomorrow. 15+k and 30 obstacles. 2nd race of the trifecta in one calendar year leading up to the Best which will be 20+K and 30 obstacles. Got some in race gels to keep me going although never tried them before, i here they are rank tasting but can really help when it starts to get tough.

Only started running in the last 18 months but loving these obstacle races.

The gels were awful and not really sure if they helped that much, maybe physiologically they helped to push through.

The race was good fun and i finished with a time of 1hr 51 mins. Pretty happy with that although the winner came in at 58mins which is just bloody mental for what turned out to be 11k and 30 obstacles.

Thought I'd post this in here since it's relevant...sort of.

My uncle Donald Ritchie passed away on Saturday. He was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, but i think it was his heart that finally gave up.

Anyway, he was an absolute monster in the running game and will be sorely missed by those that knew him in the NE and indeed around the world.

RIP Uncle Don

Sad news.

Great boy was Don - spoke to him at a couple of events.

Some engine on him to enable him to compete at that level at those distances.

Nae many like him who had the ability.

Cheers Dom.

Aye he was quiet and unassuming, but was some competitor.

My Mum is understandably devastated.

It's nice however that my Uncle's Grandson is following in his footsteps and is competing very well at schoolboy and international level in Athletics. He runs for Deveron Harriers and Scotland and is quite the machine.

Certainly is.

Some boy for the ultra runs! Condolences.

Thanks min.

Bought his book to take on holiday with me in a few weeks time as well.

Tragic news. Thoughts with your family KSL.

Cheers min.

It's a good read, enjoy.

Terrible attitude that Razor. Should be supporting local shops not taking advantage. Granted it may be more expensive (and possibly not local to you) but thats a shocking thing to do IMO.

I don't think Run4It could be classed as 'local' given its a national franchise corporation tbf.

Is this a safe space to talk running these days? Im doing Braemar half in September, any of you done that? Hilly?

We got a few posts in before a 'omg, running is so boring.' attention seeker arrived anyway.

Braemar is nice enough. Wouldn't say too hilly but it has few surprises tucked in. Very scenic.
