#1777723 James Wilson - Our New Number 9

Posted by boboisared on Yesterday, 03:12 PM in AFC and Scottish Football

That none of us really know on fairness. We can all have guesses but my guess is that he had injury troubles. McInnes may be a lot of things but he's not one who tolerates laziness from players in training. He's got rid of players after a year because they weren't putting in the work. He wouldn't be after Wilson again if he wasn't showing willingness to do well.

He got rid of some after 6 months.

Total myth

He had the highest number of assists in the squad in his first season.  He definitely improved but it's a nonsense to say he was shite in his first year.

He's shite now though - the chewed caramel faced tim cunt

Aye. Brown had him playing so deep he was just in front of the full back. Was still a good player, just hard to be effective.

#1777259 Who Does Mcinnes Answer To?

Can back up the use of the app/software. Mate of mine up until recently was working an internship at pittodrie (essentially unpaid labour) doing analysis and stats. First day in the job he was handed a copy of football manager for the stats (no word of a lie) and they used this other software tool frequently. He'd scrawl through 1000's of players playing in all the European leagues checking out stats and video montages etc.

He's not from Aberdeen but did it to try and get a break in the game - I was embarrassed we didn't pay him.

Is the thinking of using football manager not along the lines of the games research being provided by fans?

Not saying it's a good method to use...but can see the logic behind it.

I'm pretty sure he's a jambo but stand to be corrected.

Agree about that game - possibly the worst performance from a ref I've seen.

Seeing posts on P&B from Hearts fans I'd guess you were correct originally.

I think there's a chronic failure on the part of many fans to understand just how much work goes on behind the scenes in the football operation at the club.  There is no need for a technical director. Derek McInnes effectively is the technical director.  You and other fans may disagree with the recruitment policy, and yes, Curtis Main and Ash Taylor don't quite give me a warm fuzzy feeling either, but there is obviously something there that McInnes sees as being technically better than the metrics he sees in the players we have here.  Like it or not, this is the world of top level football in Scotland when the resources are dwarfed by two much larger adversaries.

On the Taylor point; the cold hard facts are that this season we have the 2nd highest number of goals conceded at home in the division.  This is with a Scottish international £5m+ valued central defender, and another who was called into a Scotland squad.  It is therefore quite believable that the team's defensive stats were better with Taylor in the team, than they were last season, and possibly also the season before as well.  We can say what we like about Taylor's ability to make mistakes etc, but the art of defending is about more than just what the paying punters see.  I for example think McKenna is a good defender, but there is little value in holding on to a £5m rated defender in this league unless they push you to the title.  The defensive performance (poor) of the team this season proves that.

Regarding the point in the blog post about McGinn in particular; McGinn is a player on a downward trajectory, yes. But his stats are still better than (1) the players at the club that he was/is in direct competition with for a place in the team and (2) the attainable players that were identified to come into the club to replace him.

Good post min.

There's no way that his scouting comments are correct, we have scouts at youth football in Edinburgh/Glasgow/Ireland but we have no scouting network to speak of at senior football other than one guy and a scouting app?

McInnes will have lots of contacts within the game that he will use and the club has a good handle on UK/Ireland. We are operating on a limited budget so we have taken gambles that unfortunately have not worked. I am sure McInnes talked about extending the scouting to Europe also.

The scouting stuff in regards to the app is no real shock either. @minijc posted about us using that a couple of years ago.

It reads like the guy has decided McInnes is happy to go forward with the current scouting 'team' when I'd be certain it's one of many things he'd like to improve.

That's interesting... for those of us not on twitter can you elaborate? Genuine question, as that blog post seems pretty reasonable and well written to me.

Well, even from reading that blog you can see the guys agenda for all to see. Milne bad. McInnes bad. Cormack good.

You can drive a bus through some of the nonsense in that blog.

McGinns legs were clearly going before he left? First time I've ever heard that mentioned. McGinns stats from that season don't seem too different from what came before or after. He's avery good player who is inconsistent.

A rigid wage structure is bad? Ok, let's sign a marquee player on a daft wage. There is no guarantee that marquee player is going to deliver and suddenly every member of our team has a higher expectation of what he is worth.

Gives credit to Fraser, Cormack and Wicks for the club becoming debt free and remaining there (i.e not Milne). As far as I can see, Cormack joined the board in 2017. Willie and Elaine Donald cleared the debt in 2014.

McInnes track record with signings is poor, apparently. If we are to believe this guys twitter he's not a great tactician either. Why do we (until this year) consistently finish ahead of every team bar Celtic? It can't be the budget, we struggled before. We can't say it was the squad he inherited, we struggled before.

EDIT: Link to his twitter account if you are interest https://twitter.com/stonefish100

So today I was reading this blog

http://www.unmodernm...rave-new-world/

Now if it's to be believed, then it confirms that our recruitment process is absolutely dogshit and amounts to McInnes, Docherty and Russ Richardson trawling Wyscout and little else.  That is nowhere near good enough for a club of our size and, allegedly, ambition.  For those who don't know what Wyscout is, it's a website with statistics and videos of players which can be used to assist in the process of scouting a player.  Assist being the operative word, as in it should be one of many tools used to identify potential players, not the only one.

So taking the blog at face value, yes it would seem our entire recruitment process is little better than amateur and the board of directors need to be held accountable for letting that happen.

McInnes is ultimately answerable to the board, but it's pretty clear nobody on the board is willing to really question him.  This season should have seen some serious questions raised over his position at this club.  He assembled a truly horrendous team, wasted relatively large amounts of money in the process and finished behind fucking Kilmarnock.  That should never, ever, be rewarded with a 4 year contract extension and possible pay rise on top of what is already a large salary.

But hey maybe that's just bed wetting.  Maybe in a few months we'll all be praising him for a terrific summer as we watch Ash Taylor blootering the ball up to big Curtis to smash in the goals.  Time will tell.

From reading that guys twitter in the past, I wouldn't take any blog he writes seriously.

I'm aware there are diving bastards who con refs.

My point was if you're genuinely getting your shirt tugged and you pull free or they let go while you're trying to pull free you will fall forward. You'd also throw your arms out when being pulled back. Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are.

His shirt is pulled, he makes no effort to struggle and just throws himself through the air. Players who are diving forward after being pulled backwards aren't even giving themselves enough time to be involved in a struggle that would give them enough force to fall forward when let go.

Yes.

That's strange. You'd think giving yourself a lower sense of gravity would be more efficient in freeing yourself of the opponent tugging you.

Unless you're just a diving bastard.

Why would we go for 2 right sided centre halves to replace a left sided one? As it happens I think it was an "either/or" situation with Gash or Shug and I think Shug already said no...he's made no secret of the fact he wants to try England.

More worryingly....why those 2 anyway? At their stages of career, they certainly ain't gonna want to play second fiddle to anyone. Given that Devlin couldn't shift a gaffe prone Consi out the team since his supposed return to fitness in February (and couldn't play a full 90 when he got in through injury/suspension)…..I'm really wondering if there isn't more to Devlin's situation than the club are letting on.

There's a St Johnstone fan on pie and bovril who's absolutely certain that we were Joe's first choice but his dad (agent) came the cunt and McInnes had enough.

#1776603 Out Of Contract

Posted by boboisared on 22 May 2019 - 08:19 AM in AFC and Scottish Football

If a player of the quality of GMS got brought in this summer we would be delighted. We would be foolish not to try and keep him.

As others have said he was our best player by a mile up until his injury, we desperately need creativity in the team and they are the hardest players to attract so hopefully he stays.

He played well individually but he starts so deep and plays so slow, by the time he's beat two men we have 2 players in the box up against 6 opponents.

EDIT: His starts aren't much better than McGinn adn McLennan's when you also take in to account GMS was the penalty taker. I don't think it is a coincidence that our best run coincided with him being out of the team.

Did he not pull out because he had a dentist appointment?

Think that was Robertson who was advised not to play because of dental issues. Made the next match though.

#1776592 Transfers News For The Inferior Teams

Posted by boboisared on 22 May 2019 - 08:03 AM in The Rumour Mill

Do yous think our bottle merchant tag might hinder Scottish lads from joining at times?

As in, we can point to Europe all we want but we've never qualified for it proper since it was reformed as the Europa League.

We consistently enough play at Hampden but almost always find a way to let ourselves down/fail to have a go at it.

We've just finished 4th and are clearly a club with a manager out of ideas as to how to push that bit further and be genuinely successful.

We've only won the one league cup, which other clubs have managed to do in the last 10/15 years, some of them much smaller than us.

People talking about Halkett, it would surprise me if we hadn't offered him terms, he probably thought it doesn't matter if I play for Aberdeen, Hearts or Hibs, it's a bigger move for me, that's all. Our draw of European qualifiers isn't much of one imo.

Just food for thought, trying to get my head around why Ash Taylor would be considered a good option for us.

No.

If you're moving forward and someone pulls your shirt you're going to pull harder to get free and once you are free you're going to fall forward surely?

Is that why he jumps in to the air, arms wide?
