I like the way both sides are celebrating the ceasefire and claiming a victory. Death toll over past 11 days has been something like

palestinians would be best served by telling hamas to fuck off. They’re like an incompetent  manager dragging them into the depths of a relegation battle, then celebrating a 4-1 defeat

Looking back over the years, my sympathies over this conflict have moved about constantly.  I'm at the stage I almost don't know what to think.

Maybe a new Crusade is what is needed, to return the Holy land to the control of Christendom?  ?  We certainly couldn't make a worse job of it than the current lot.

I empathise with the ordinary people, the nobodys, who are just trying to get by in life and who find themselves caught up among tanks and rockets landing etc.

I think there are cunts on both sides.  Ultimately, I tell myself that Israel as a society is better than anything that muslims could produce (judging by other muslim countries).

Ive been to israeli, a long time ago, as a child (maybe early high school age).  We were on holiday in cyprus and got an overnight ferry ("vasco da gama") for a day trip to israel.  I remember seeing burnt out armoured vehicles lying around the place.

Both Israelis and Palestinians very all very nice (they all wanted your money).  We visited the important Christian places on a bus tour  - the holy sepulchre, bethlehem, gethsemane etc.  I would appreciate that so much more nowadays.  I would like to take my family one day.

We also visited the western wall, an important jewish place - my mum and sisters were not allowed in, being female (ha) and my dad and I had to wear those jewish skull caps to go near it.  It was on the news recently, with a lot of extremist israelis dancing around and chanting, because the mosque on the other side was burning.  I felt quite hard done by in retrospect, if that kind of behaviour was allowed.

I remember lots of IDF troopers hanging about Jerusalem also.

My maternal grandfather was in the palestine police for a period, during the British mandate of that area.  I would like to find out more about his time there. I remember him telling me that, on top of the western wall (where the jews pray), you can see a more modern bit on top of it, which the british built to increase the height.  Apparently the muslims would drop their rubbish down on top of the jews praying at the wall, and the British increased the height to try to stop this ?

Bizarre scenes in Gaza.  65 dead children and they're driving around tooting horns and waving flags like they've just won the World Cup. Theyre in exactly the same situation they were before,  except a good part of the city is rubble.

Do they have a national team?

There is a Palestine national side and obviously mannies from Gaza play for them

Unfortunately their players do tend to have some difficulties along the way, variously being refused exit visas/being refused re-entry to the West Bank after an away match in Thailand/getting arrested for being members of a terrorist cell/being arrested for attacking IDF soldiers/arrested for being a member of Hamas.

Their home stadium, the ingeniously named Palestine Stadium, also regularly suffers damage during skirmishes

Oh and Israel have been accused in the past of shooting some of the Palestine players in the knees and/or feet

If I was from Gaza, frankly I'd be looking to see if I had a Scottish granny. Or if she had ever eaten an Irish stew, which would obviously qualify me for the Republic

Was watching a live stream last night from there. Hundreds of falafel munchers “celebrating” by throwing rocks at a few Israeli soldiers up a road from them. There were countless ambos on the scene carrying revellers away. Doubt the Israelis needed to even get of a shot.

Sky Sports really diversify these days with their content.
