Over-rated Cities

What Cities have you been to which you felt were totally over-rated and why?

 

I would say Dublin, because:

 

- it was laughably expensive (like everywhere I have been in Rep Ireland)

- too busy and full of undesirables like hen nights

- the nightlife places were unimpressive*

- thought much of it was pretty dirty / dingy

 

It was like shit version of Glasgow I thought.

 

* in one bar, I had an upset stomach and was passing wind (silently but violently). Eventually a total stranger came up to our group and berated us for stinking the place out. Fortunately I am an expert at avoiding the blame for passing wind.

 

I liked Cork better, though its also expensive. I took a girl out for dinner (mexican) and paid something like £100 for a meal I could have done better myself with one of those old el paso fajita kits.

Milan. Shite atmosphere about the place. Bars are devoid of atmosphere and people were pretty unfriendly.

 

Dublin not my favourite place but I'm going back next year for the college football that's there.

Only been to Dublin for the Bohemians game and thought it was shit. Bouncers only letting locals in and overpriced.

 

Bucharest is a shithole, full of gypsies.

Another vote for Milan - horribly expensive, surprisingly little to do for such a big place (by far the best places to go are all on the outskirts, like the Lakes etc). Meanwhile it's well-nigh impossible to get a fucking drink, and everywhere insists on serving (and subtly charging you for) those effing nibbles, and it appeared that if you want a drink you can't just hand the nibbles back. 

 

Like, fuck off, no I do not need two wee rolls and some sushi, I just want the pints.  

 

Little surprise that when my mate and I found somewhere that didn't do the nibbles nonsense we went absolute hell-for leather, and I spent the entirety of the next day in bed. 

 

So in short, Milan get get fucked.

Moved to Amsterdam in April this year after 12 years in Dubai.

Ha, I was also going to comment Milan and then realised half the hat had beaten me to it. We saw a game at the San Siro which was great, but there is literally bugger all to do there. It's just a big, boring city with zero personality. And everyone is up their own arses.

Agreed. I'd love a wee camping trip on my jack, few beers, bit dope, tinned food. Don't know if I'd fancy it in a big city though. I'd probs end up getting bummed by a gang of big sambos.

Paris is shit, real dump with third world residents and facilities to match, went for a shit in a boozer and was faced with a hole in the floor with ribbed tiles for placing your feet, rancid. Real gypo problem as well.

 

Best City, London or Krakow, would be great places to live.
