Dominic Ball

Ball played well in the top six split but was poor prior to that - particularly against Motherwell. He did well enough in midfield but keep him out of our defence. I really hope the signing of Ball was not due to DM missing out on all his other targets. I'm personally underwhelmed by this.

I'm delighted with the signings of Gleeson (essentially Jack/ Tansey's replacement) and Forrester (Christie's replacement) however we still haven't replaced McLean. Ferguson is still very young and seems to have a lot of potential but I'm not sure he's going to be ready for first team action. IMO we also need to sign another winger as I'm still not convinced by Scotty Wright.

That's not true. He was decent prior to the Motherwell game whilst in Midfield. That semi seems to have clouded a lot of peoples judgement on the boy. AOC was actually playing well in defence as well at the latter half of the season, surprisingly. We only remember the bad stuff and not the solid performances that players put in.

He'd didn't get much of a chance after the murray field game against Hearts tbf - maybe its the lack of minutes. I thought he did well when he was introduced for the remaining 10-15 minutes of matches and actually wanted to see him start but I'd agree that my opinion changed entirely after witnessing that horror show of a semi final. He wasn't the only one who had a nightmare that day. I hope to see him carry on his form from the end of last season into the new one. I'm still dubious

One bad game at DM out of about 8, he must be fucking shite.

Why you posting anyway? You're done with AFC so why bother?

Hearts at Murrayfield too he was pish, it's a very negative and desperate signing, those "in Derek we trust" types are saying it's a good signing, makes you think eh.

I am done with afc but I have commitments to the league and the other Scottish leagues so will still be following activity.

Did you go to Tynecastle and the League Cup game against Motherwell Mini?

Nope watched the league cup game on tv, friends that were there giving updates too and a match report, Hearts game there was no hope in hell of me going to that due to the way the fans of the club were acting, it was always going to be a shit show but again pals were there, usual updates and a match report afterwards,

I have differing opinions to many that go to games...

Killie game as Del Monte said, me and him share the same opinion. Other fans slated Ball, despite him playing well.

Your mates may say he played pish at Hearts, match report also - but other fans could say he played well. If you went to it, you may have had a differing opinion.

The point I'm making (I wasn't at the game), so I'm not basing an opinion on Ball based on things I didn't see, and based on what other fans think. I will base it on what I've actually seen, because so many fans share so many differing opinions, for example - you and me/others on Ryan Jack.

Aye, bit daft to base your opinion on a performance on what other folk have told you.

If you don't see it yourself then it's best just to keep quiet.

Those mates at games liked his performance against Killie, for me it's going to come down to what I've seen from him and from what I've been told by people I trust that go to almost every games, if anyone seriously thinks that Dom Ball is the signing of a club looking to challenge Celtic then they are mental, granted we need squad players but short term loan fixes will not get us anywhere, for a club with the 3rd largest budget in the league we shouldn't be relying on loans, that's a joke.

Dom Ball is clearly a squad player. Every team has those. It's obviously a player McInnes trusts but for whatever reason Rotherham are not willing to release or he's not willing to take a cut in wage.

It's just a sad state of affairs when we have to resort to so many loans especially loans of average players.

Will give you that.

If the loans get us to where we need to be then it's a necessary sacrifice though.

Happy to let this one play out and see where it goes.

Thing with this one we all know what Ball can and can't do, at best he's just above average, the club have got some major work to do to win back some fans as going by social media quite a lot are fed up.

It's a wages thing. To buy a player on a salary we can afford we need to look at lower leagues in England where the quality isn't there.

To buy Ball out of his contract would cost the remaining part of his Rotherham signing on fee (possibly around £50k), the balance of his salary he would be losing by taking a reduced wage here (let's say £6k per week to £2.5k per week, so £3.5k per week so say £175k), plus any new signing on fee we'd need to give him, say £25k. So that's a £250k investment for Ball if we signed him permanently and again that is assuming Rotherham don't look for compensation (transfer fee) which they'd be entitled to. With a loan, his own Rotherham signing on fee is protected, his contract situation (salary) is protected, and he gets (and we get) continuity. As it is, it's likely we're only paying him a portion of his wages and a small fee to Rotherham. It makes financial sense all round.

This will be the reason we're looking at guys like Marquis. There'll be no baggage in buying out his contract as he'll be on comparative wages, so it would be a straightforward transfer fee.

The thing with this one is most fans don't have a fucking clue how to run a football club.

What, because a couple of dozen fans have posted negatively? There's no guarantee they do or have any interest in going to games.
