Return On Scott Brown

Recommended Posts

When we look back at Scott Brown's 2 seasons with us, what kind of a return on minutes played (only) would you consider to be value for the signing?

38 games x 2, plus cups, plus Europe.

There's the potential for around 100 games there.

Taking sub appearances, recovery days, suspensions and injuries into consideration, what's the minimum playing time you'd hope to get out of Scott Brown?

I think we'd be doing really well to have him play the equivalent of 60 minutes in 65-70 games.

I will be genuinely disappointed if Brown is only here for the playing minutes.

Of course.

We get the leadership, experience, and 'coaching', but the question was specifically about his playing minutes.

At what point would you feel we 'break even'?

In that respect I think

1: if we get a return of 40% of game time

2: an improvement we can see of dare I say hardness particularly against your usual banana skin type fixtures there are too many for me to specify but we have all seen them

3: our midfielders becoming more imposing , I hope specifically for dean cambell to benefit from this coaching and advice

it will be difficult however to differentiate between whether it’s glass , brown , or Russell who is actually making the most tangible difference

essentially I don’t care as long as it’s improvement

ps don’t get dissuaded by the usual doubters and keyboard warriors you see their content and realise they are ………..

post as you like ?

I think he'll be a first pick July to December but I'm not so convinced he'll be playing much beyond that.

Hopefully that is enough to get the Glass era going.

Much like the rest of us, I’m struggling to get used to brown in a dons top. There was always a sense of I’m the biggest boy in the playground so I must be the best at football about him imho - much of the problem with Scottish football.

however , to answer your question, I think he still has much to give, and if he’s determined to play on then, injury aside, I suspect his fitness levels will surprise a few of us. I can’t see him going the full 90 minutes each week; what that means when we are chasing games I don’t know. Seems a bit negative that you can’t rely on your captain when you need him most.

can’t say what return I expect from him over two years, but for coming season I’d like to see him start vast majority of our games. I know we have a lot of depth in the middle of the park which I think might be valuable as Much as I hope brown is good I’m not sure we can count on him always being there.

6724 minutes.

give or take.

Given Brown's style of play, I expect him to play plenty. He doesn't exactly bust a gut...because in the spfl he doesn't have to. If he can improve some of the young guys like Ferguson and Campbell then I think that's a good return.
