Boys You Played With Who 'made' It

I played with David Robertson (Aberdeen Primary Select) who was signed by the Dons and then went somewhere else. Think a few others went onto play Highland League. What about yourselves?

Stuart Duff. Martin Wood who started a few games for Motherwell. Murray McCulloch who started a few games for the Dons under Pele. By far the best player I ever played with however was Chris Ogboke. His bad attitude meant he never played at a higher level than Montrose but he was quality.

I played against Steven McGarry a couple of months ago... most Scottish fans probably wouldn't recognise him these days - the trademark locks are gone - he's as bald as Tup now!

Played against David Goodwillie , was always a stand out and also Andrew Shinnie. Played with Paul Emslie who went to Rangers who was the best I had played with .

Attitude is everything really.

 

Too many folk concentrate on ability, and laud those with utterly atrocious attitudes.

 

Stokes and Commons being two notable current examples of this ridiculousness.

That's how I look on it. How many guys did you play with who could have made it, who had ability at 10yo that you could only dream of but who 6 years later were drinking, sniffing, snorting and whoring themselves to oblivion. And they could still beat you!

We concentrate on ability alone in this country.

 

It's stupid. Instill a proper attitude to life first and the ability will naturally flourish.

Paul Lawson who went to Celtic, Ross County and Motherwell. He was at Aberdeen for a spell until he and one other got told not to come back for disappearing to Leeds for a trial if I remember right.

 

Andy Considine at Aberdeen.

 

Foster at Aberdeen.

 

Stuart Holden who went to Bolton - played with him at King Street before his family moved to the States.

 

Maloney trained for a stint at Aberdeen.

 

Rake of highland league players but I'd say the ones above were the ones who "made it".

Played against Russell Anderson and Barry Robson when I played for Kemnay yoof.

Probably played against others, but can't remember them.

I think Levi Stephen was the most naturally gifted player I played against. I remember not even being able to catch him to give him my customary boot 10 feet into the air.

 

Good example of why you don't sign for the Huns.

Ryan Strachan at Peterhead is the only one I've played with and that was at primary school. Think he was at Celtic before signing for the blue toon.

Russel Anderson, Dennis Wyness, Jamie Buchan, Malcolm Kadepo, David Craig, Kevin Morgan, Tommy Wilson. .....was in the Aberdeen select teams with a few of them as well as the dons S form team. Good memories.....wish to fuck i had stuck at it to be honest when i got the knock back instead of hitting the piss. Always ended up speaking to Ryan Esson in the town but dont actually remember ever playing or competing with him for the keepers position

Ian Wilson at Middlefield Primary. Went on to play for Everton and Scotland.

Russell McBride and Michael Stephen. Both are fantastic footballers who can feel they could easily made it at a higher level than Elgin City and Fraserburgh respectively. Both had trials with Dundee United.
