There are many children that go missing but I've never seen such a prolonged effort to trace a child that's probably dead.

No, i sincerly doubt any parent would willingly do that.

I just don't read or see any other set of parents getting the same funding etc as the McCanns get/got.

The only guess I can make is that there have been several credible leads that the police are duty bound to investigate. Other cases may go cold whereas this one keeps having stuff popping up. Fuck knows though.

Point is though, that Ben Needham who went missing on a Greek island in the 80's got fuck all coverage and fuck all funding to carry on the search in relation to the McCanns search.

 

Why should the taxpayer continue to foot the bill though?

 

As said, loads of other kids go missing but they don't get £11m+ spent on them individually to carry out the search.

 

All while the parents enjoyed themselves in a Tapas bar out if sight and out of earshot of their three kids.

As far as I'm concerned, it was to show that there was no "favouritism" over the two cases as the Press were publishing comparisons between the two cases around that time.

The second journo fled the country, and later turned up death in a South American hotel. British government investigation concluded he'd simply died from wanking too hard.
