Spfl Referees Are Shite Thread

Recommended Posts

There's not a single one out of the entire gaggle of bastards we have for referees that I'd say are actually fit for purpose.

This weekend saw Craig Thomson win a trophy for Celtic, Steven McLean and co try his fucking best to get Killie back into a game they had no right to be in and Don Robertson allow Hamilton to kick fuck out of Hibs... the last one admittedly being quite funny.

These corrupt fuckers would piss on your shoe and tell you it's raining if it meant that their beloved arse cheeks got some sort of benefit from it. Video refereeing is a must now.

Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson has described as "incredible" overhearing referee Craig Thomson ask Scott Sinclair whether he dived or not in yesterday's Betfred Cup final

I mean fucking hell. Actually asking him if he dived. If that's not gross incompetence I dinna ken fit is.

I think that's actually an example of good reff-ing. To me it doesn't imply that the ref missed it but but that he's testing the player's character.

It shows the player respect but at the same time doesn't commit the ref to one decision or another. It would be a good technique with younger and/or players with a rep for being fair.

If the player says no angrily then the ref can say; 'Well, you have to understand that it looked that way to me'. Taking the player's view on board could diffuse tensions and sidestep a yellow for dissent.

If the player says no more softly then the ref can say the same thing and give a warning, again without directly calling the player a cheat.

Im not getting too hung up on the two tackles in the final personally.

Kipre doesn't mean it but does fuck him. Simple booking given its his first challenge and told to keep the toe down, studs in would have sufficed. Dembele certainly does mean it but luckily doesn't do any damage. Again booking is about right not least since by then his fourth official will have told him off the tv that he's fucked up the Kipre one. Get them both together, tell them to stop acting like fannies, tell Brown to get that fucking smirk off his puss and get on with the game.

Re the penalties. If that's a penalty then so is Moults. And Moult's is never a penalty.

I think everyone is in agreement that Scottish referees are shite. Worst I remember was Colum disallowing 3 Aberdeen goals at Hamilton a number of years back. Hate to say it, but fans of all clubs feel the same. (Barca goal not given last night against Valencia was a shocker). Is video technology the answer or is retrospective action against crap refs such as Thomson or players cheating such as Sinclair the answer? Remove power base from West coast football brown nose apologists? Buggered if I know!

It is not incompetence, it is base corruption.

In my view, there is definitely money involved and our referees are actively corrupt.

Collum went to the Euros and reffed no bother. That suggests he is far from incompetent.

Incompetence = the excuse refs use for themselves to cover their criminal activity.

The criminal justice system could employ the same system and it would save millions on trial costs etc.

"Did you and your partner Myra murder those children Mr Bradey?"

An angry 'no' would mean he was innocent. A softer 'no' could lead to 20 hours of community service scraping chewing gum offf the pavement.

Agree with this to an extent.

The SRU seem to have no major problems finding and training Scottish referees who are capable and balanced.

So what is the excuse the SFA have that covers whole generations of refereeing "incompetence"?

Edit to add:

There is clearly nothing inherently making Scottish people unable to referee sports (other sports manage it)

Its the people the SFA are choosing/promoting and the way they are choosing them that's the issue,

Its a completely ambiguous question anyway (for a player at least)

Post match Sinclair basically admitted he dived at the slightest contact.

So you could say he lied to Thompson.

Yeah, players are never going to say anything else but he shouldn't be engaging with him in the first place on the matter. If he was in any doubt in the first place he should have played on, that's the rules he needs to follow. Last season we had Bobby Madden asking players if it was a penalty in the Celtic Rangers 1-1 game now we have Thomson. It's laughable.

It is the sfa and it's unwillingness to fund full time, well paid refs. That is the problem and it seems it always will be.

Fee for a premiership match is 850.

How many will a ref get a month? 2, 3, 4?

Its a significant amount of top up cash - we should expect good quality officiating for that.

The whole refereeing organisation should be made independant, taken away from the SFA and based somewhere away from the biggest cities. Again Stirling or somewhere makes sense.

Then get some control in about where the refs come from, i bet most of the ones at the moment are from Glasgow or Lanarkshire.

It needs to be balanced.

And a Ref's team affinity should be on public record too.

What a nonsense having season ticket holders referring their own team.

It doesn't really matter what their match fee is. They aren't full time refs. They aren't even fit enough to merit the phrase 'part-time refs'. There is not even the incentive to do well at their job/past-time as they will get their match fee regardless seeing as they don't have any competition in their 'work'. There are only 5 or 6 games a week in the Spfl and the in-refs get the lot, it's only around £250 for a championship game.

Give refs a good salary when they get to the top, give an extra bonus for staying in the top league based on good performances and get all the hobby-refs to fuck. Make them focus 100% on the game like players and management teams do. They are extremely important and right now, in my opinion, are one of the major factors holding our game back. Basically, they don't really have to give a shit and who could blame them?

Yeah sounds like a genius plan.

Problem being that those deciding on what is deemed 'good performances' & thus bonuses, are arse cheek fans
