Haha cheers man. How's life in Amsterdam? Getting back to normal?

So I'm shit at golf but not as shit as you and you're not as shit as parky

That's poor. Not many 16 year olds play off 10.

All good thanks Parko man!

Getting a bit stricter here now to be honest man. Having to wear face masks into supermarkets and on public transport now. They didn’t care before, but now the numbers are rising again they are taking action.

My office have said working from home until 1st of Jan at minimum

At least they are finally taking this shit seriously.

Supposed to be going to Dubai to see my sister for Christmas. Fuck knows if that will happen now. Thankfully took full insurance out on the flights, so all good!

What’s the reasons for not playing anymore Rocket? Think I read somewhere it’s cos you’ll never master the game so think it’s a waste of time......or something along those lines?

Im shite but enjoy getting out there, sinking beers, having a laugh with mates and slowly improving. Do you not even enjoy that side of it now?

I don't play for many reasons despite being on different golf courses most weeks of my life (pre Covid). I never got the bevvying on the course brigade, probably because we took it seriously, or perhaps too seriously. I love the game but don't see the point of investing the amount of time you need to to be good at playing it, so I've come full circle after more than 45 years playing it at category 1 level. I actually love the game more now. Different folks, different spin rates and trajectories. Good to hear you love getting out there. The more the merrier.

I also currently play off 2 but have been as low as plus 2.4 in my younger days.

Kids come along and it is difficult to justify playing golf all weekend when the better half is having to take responsibilty for everything else.

I play golf with a couple of beers now and the lads, weirdly it sometimes leads to better play, particularly after 3 and 4 beers and the inhibitions and nerves start to become immaterial.

Got to say though, part of the biggest problem of playing golf nowadays is the amount of fucking muppets that play. I have no issue with people enjoying the game and trying to improve, but its the time they take doing it and the lack of etiquette that usually goes along with it.

Slow play cunts.

R or D, did you used to write Think + on your ball when you were a prodigiously talented teenager in the late 90's?

Sadly, we have zero amateurs in the NE currently who have any prospect of making it in the game. It's cyclical but amateur golf in the UK is the weakest it's been in all of our lifetimes.

No, only ever wrote my initials on my golf ball in either red or black ink.

The young guy Sandy Scott from Nairn is a prospect as the young lad from Duff House, who has been shooting amazing numbers for a few years. Calum somebody i think?

As you say, the levels and the margins involved between success and being an also ran make it one of the toughest sports to succeed at in the pro game.

The other thing, unfortunately that drives people forward and cannot be underestimated as a major factor of anybodys development in golf, is money.

Golf is an extremely expensive sport to be any good at and all the boys i played with that went on to turn pro (some have made it big time) were rich kids and were privileged enough to be able to play full time amateur golf due to rich parents.

Was speaking to a young lad lately who was chosen for national coaching by the SGU. What an opportunity at 16 year old, he plays off 1 currently.

Was quite amazed at the standards they are drilling into them already at that age.

They are like robots - No drinking, gym 3 times a week, heavily focused on nutrition etc etc.

Spreadsheets for putting.

Fuck all that shit. Just play golf.

Sandy is an excellent prospect, undoubtedly but like Calum Bruce of Duff House come under the North region rather than NE, which is where we are very weak just now. I saw Sandy at the Island and at Portmarnock last year where he hit only two of the first 12 GIR's but amazing Short Game and Putting performance won him the match. I watched Sandy at the Walker Cup last year and he was spraying it a bit but he's a good lad and the best Scot by miles.

Sandy is North District, but DHR is within the NE district no?

I played for the NE and always found them to be a bit preoccupied with Aberdeen players.

With the exception of some of the Cruden Bay lads who couldn’t be ignored.

The weather and conditions in this shithole dont really help the cause.

Scholarships pre Covid, together with opportunities to play and train abroad offer more opportunity, particularly in winter.

Agree with the fact that taking longer over the ball can lead to unwanted thoughts and can also be a symptom of somebody who isnt sure what they are doing.

Not sure why Scotland isnt producing so many top level players at present.

Richie, Russel Knox and Bob Macintyre doing pretty well though.

It's the same with pool and darts.  After pint 5 or 6 it starts working against you though.

Aye drinking and driving doesn't mix.

Used to enjoy a toke in a bounce game back in the day.

Same here, fuck all wrong with that and played some good golf bombed as fuck.

Trying to rack my brains to figure out who you are. We’ve probably met or played in a match at some point or the likes.

Give me a clue with the club you play at - pm if you want min.

Played a bit of golf with Richie in Aberdeen and on the amateur circuit events.

Temperemental when he was younger and winning the Scottish amateur was the making of him. Amazing achievement at the time and same with the US amateur. That is big.

Graham Gordon was another boy that was a helluva player. If boys as good as him can’t make it, that shows how tough it is.

Fantastic player - whether his attitude and mentality weren’t what is required. Who knows.

Let's rule out that it's him first but it's worth telling. He was young and it was a long time ago. If he stepped onto the 4th green as I invited him to, I would've booted the cunt clean down the hill.

It’s not him. I know RoD. He’s not a Cruden Bay member.

Played golf with the majority of boys mentioned in this thread. All fantastic players in there own right.  We have not had juniors at our club for a few years. Sad state of affairs.  When i was a junior we could have fielded three junior pennant teams.  One thing the covid 19 did do was get golfers back out. It was a real struggle to get a game at one point....rounds took ages as well.

Good shout Moobsy.

Theres another fat American slob who seems out of place on the golfing circuit, looks like a ginger albino, don't know his name though.
