That is strictly what's happening, yes. 

 

The monitor is 5 grand, and if you don't want to have to lean it against a wall or a box then the stand is another $999. 

 

But it's designed by Jony Ive, so that probably accounts for $900 of the cost per unit. 

 

When I buy a $50 monitor I expect the fucking thing to come with a stand, never mind a monitor that costs five grand.
