Never argue with an I D I O T . They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

We were one Mclean tap-in away from Deilas first season equaling Rodgers first season, only with much less money.

Nonsense re 'tap in' .

Bridging the gap for us on Celtic is immensely more difficult due to the Scottish coefficient. We lack the 8 points required to allow us to have entered into the champions league qualifying stages. (this equates to in the last four years, celtic and one EL team getting one stage further in every year of the last 4, or all three EL teams or a big run from one every year etc.)

The bridge lies in the play off round of the champions league.

And frankly, not just for us, but it is a bridge for many a European team to get to the next level.

Where, to give some perspective, is where Rijeka and Maribor will probably reach this coming week. I truly believe we could have reached the champions league play off stage in the last four years. Even once, would have been more lucrative than all of our DMC European campaigns to this point combined even if we had reached the group stage once (see below), this I believe is a harder prospect than reaching CL Playoff round would have been for us.

Under DMC we have amassed roughly €2.7m in UEFA participation. Now the same three rounds we've played four times, then beaten in EL QF R4 as we drop down, had it been in the champions league would only have netted us ~€400k more a season in participation money.

However, had we once reached the playoff round of the champions league, here's how it would work out, €540k for the first three qualifying stages, THEN €3 million for getting beat in the playoff round (compare this to the €2.6million for reaching the EL group stages and our current €2.7 million) .... THEN add the €2.6 million group stage fee and media fee as we automatically reach EL groups by being in CL PO round.

That's €6million+ in fees alone. In one year... There is your bridge.

But we're 25th in the country coefficent standing not 15th, and I'm bored and it's too hot to sleep so I figured this out, and fuck the SFA.

Anyway....

Great post. Unfortunately as the points are mainly awarded through participation in the champions league groups onwards we need Celtic to qualify for the groups every year until the second qualifying spot is achieved.

So essentially it's futile to try?

Thanks, but I'd already figured that.

No. It means a concentrated 5-6 year effort to get Scotland back into 15 or above in the coefficients and hope we are just as strong at this point (as Mcinnes will more than likely be gone). Then a good year and CL playoff round, which we can do. And then we can bridge the gap

Exactly.

People are going to have to accept that they can't expect their club to bridge the gap because finances are the biggest divide and we have no means to bridge the financial gap.

We either have to accept the imbalances as they are and that they will remain for the forseeable or go for radical wholesale changes which are against the traditions of the way the game has been ran since 18oatcake.

Most fans are dead against radical change in our game so they'll just need to accept that they can't have their cake and eat it.

I'm going to bake a cake and eat it, I don't think it'll bridge any gap other than between my belly and my jeans.........

Don't know whether to be depressed about it or not........

No.....cake, I'm definitely happy :)

Rijeka and Maribor probably going to get into there this week. Not all countries are like us where there are huge gaps between teams as we are discussing in this thread, often you're playing the 3rd in the league in the Europa league quals and 2nd in the league in CL quals. Fuck me some of these teams are basically the same standard but just got separated by a point or a few goals goal difference. Still get utter shit teams in CL qualifying.

What we need is a team of "tax dodgers" to sign a load of players they can't afford to buy the league and qualify for the CL group stages year upon year and boost our Coefficient...oh hang on!

Am i right in thinking that even if we beat the cyprus team we're still not in the group stages of this MM competition?

It would take a Russian oligarch or such like to bankroll us to the title,as we all know the changes required from top to bottom in our game will never happen.

Lol@ believing we could reach the champions league playoff rounds. We're struggling to reach the Europa.

It's actually much, much easier to reach the Champions League P/O round or group stage than it is to do the same for the Europa League.

By some  fucking distance.

Due to the CL "champions route" the tims can only come across teams from the wee leagues.

It's not possible for them to meet teams from Spain, Germany, Italy, England, France etc

Or even from Portugal, Russia, Greece, Holland, Turkey, Belgium & Ukraine.

Countries that all provide possible opponents for us in the Europa.

Biggest problem is getting there in the first place by winning the title.

After that you can be like Celtic, play a pishy team like Reyjkavik, Dundalk Stjarnan and an easily beatable team such as Rosenburg, Quarabag, to get to CL P/O then you are guaranteed Europa League minimum.

Like 2 years ago when the might of Malmo papped them oot, and Maribor year before.

FFS, the cunts only had to beat teams from Gibraltar, Kazak and Israel to get into Champions League groups stages last season.  :hypno:

Lol. It is funny that it is so blantantly corrupt in favour of the 'big' sides that it is so much easier to get into the champions league via the qualifiers than the europa league & that even if you fail at that you then get the easiest possible route into the europa league via losing lol

Does the loser of CL QR3 not also drop into EL QR4 or has that changed now? (Huns 2011), Tims 2? Years ago.

Yup, that's how we're drawing FC Copenhagen.
