Without knowing the intricacies of international law (you doubt ken them fine) if she has an entitlement to Bangladeshi citizenship then next stop for her should be Dhaka. Sajid Javid is just playing up to the far right and is going to punt this into the courts so that they can be scapegoated when, inevitably, she is allowed to return. So anyone who cares about wasted legal fees should be pretty livid about the amount the Home Office are going to spunk so that Javid can try and increase his elect-ability. The fact there have been hundreds of others who have returned but Javid is exploiting this high profile case is pretty informative. We also don't want to be getting in to a situation where the Home Office is deciding which brown people are worthy of citizenship. Windrush citizens who have never lived anywhere else have been deported to countries they have never lived in because of the racist policies of the Home Office. This is another dangerous precedent. That's just the legal argument. Morally we can't just dump our problem on a Bangladesh, imagine if this happened in reverse. Imagine a Bangladeshi citizen came over here and committed a crime and when we tried to send them back Bangladesh said "nah, not our problem, you can deal with them." And that's before we even consider the fact that she was a 15 year old who got groomed to go and be a brood mare for a murderous cult. If she was white and got groomed to go and live with a Charles Manson type then you can guarantee there would be a lot of sympathy for her. 1 Link to comment
