St Johnstone - Dandies

Recommended Posts

I mean that we dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge through the middle later on as Hughes and Rae's legs were going. That's where Milsom would have fitted in perfectly.

I like Milsom, but after a dominating performance, no-one deserves to be dropped.

If anyone is tiring, then bring him on.

The only one that might need replacing is Fraser if Scotland insist on him going with them.

They'll probably replace him with Megginson I'd imagine and have Pawlett replace him on the bench.

Depends, we could get injuries at Cappielow

Highlights are on Youtube but I'm getting the "Not available in your country" message. I'm guessing it'll become available later for those in the UK but if you're not in the UK (or have a proxy) you should be able to watch it.

Trying not get carried away with a 1-2 win at McDermid park, but it looked like we really battered them.

How good was Fraser? Incidentally when was the last time we had a winger who could deliver a decent cross?

Also, from what I've seen of Hayes, he's threatening to confirm my suspicions that he is going to become one of the most important players we've had at Pittodrie for a number of years.

Next week against Hearts is going to be really interesting. I hope we go after them.

Thought Hayes was our best signing in years and was amazed we'd got him. Nothing I've seen makes me doubt that now. And Fraser? What a performance... he looked so so promising when he appeared first a couple of season ago and looks like he could well live up to that promise. With the benefit that he's small so we won't be thumping the ball high all the time to him.

Can't believe the handball/penalty/redcard never happened though. Terrible miss from the officials.

Great to get off the mark with goals and first win! did a bit fear the worst going by the last three seasons.

one game at a time but a few winnable matches coming up so could be well placed.

agree with that shout that hayes on paper was excellent signing and is looking a senior player for us already

Brown will be kicking himself he signed two wingers and it looks like we had one that will take some shifting from the 1st team already on the books. Good result, important to beat Morton and get a good, solid win against those Jambo cunts next week.

He only signed one.

As he's said publicly a good few times, he sees McGinn as a striker.

Best performance from the Dons that I've seen in an very long time. Totally dominant from start to finish, just a pity we didn't get more goals that our play deserved.

A new star was born today..... Ryan Fraser.

I agree. We played superbly.

Total control of the game.

With no little flair either. Tore them apart at times in the 2nd half.

Very,. very encouraging stuff.

No way do either deserve to be dropped after that performance.

Agree.

Nice one :thumbup1:

Ok maybe Vernon's 1st goal was rightly offside but WTF was the deal with the 2nd one, looks well onside, unless he came back from an offside position. And right enough at the time i thought the goalie had put the ball out for a corner but it was definitely a handball for us. From ref's viewpoint he should have seen it.

Also looks like Hasselbaink handles the ball before his goal. All in all a deserved victory for us

That Hasselbaink is a pain the ass. He always seems to cause us problems.

He was absolutely honking throughout, Osbourne gave him feck all, and then neither did Naysmith when they switched him over. He was still a good bit better than Higgins was for them. Useless doesn't even begin to cover it.

We were excellent yesterday, should have won by more if it wasn't for a couple of shockers from the referee (blatant hand ball and second offside goal looked well on to me). More disappointing thing was I think Vernon definitely deserved a goal for the work he put in yesterday. Had a hard shift up against two big bruiser central defenders and was at times left isolated but did well at winning the ball and holding up when he could.

Fraser was absolutely excellent. For years we have wanted players that can run at fullbacks and put in a cross. He must have done it 10-15 times in the first half. The quality of cross was varying, but if he consistently does it, some will come off and it did for the first goal. The amount of fouls against him in the game just shows how much of a problem he is. Could be a very important player for us this year.

Hayes also worked hard and caused problems. Good workrate for the second goal, some would have just left it thinking the chance was gone.

Osbourne was great, going forward and at the back. Had Hasslebaink in his pocket for most of the game until his booking (deserved for the challenge, but the referee was not consistent in this regard). Looked like a great finish for the goal, and the cross for Vernon's offside goal (think it was the first) was as good as you will see from that position. Right between the keeper and defence, begging to be attacked.

The midfield worked very well today. I think it may be a bit defensive at times, but worked today as the wingers were given a free reign to go out and attack the full backs (which didn't happen for the first 60 minutes or so against Ross County). Hughes got in to great positions and supported Vernon well for 65 minutes (still think this is about the point he needs subbed off just now, as he runs himself in to the ground in this time). Rae was solid and always making himself available for the pass. Jack was quietly effective.

Anderson and Considine looks like our best defensive pairing in years. With Reynolds in the mix there as well we are very well covered. Shame Anderson had to go off, he was nae happy going off. Whoever did it should be happy he wasn't able to come back on. Think he would have been on the receiving end of a few crunching tackles.

All in all, really glad I went down for this. Hopefully a sign of things to come this season. The last half hour of County and the whole of this game, we were creating lots of chances and playing decent football.

Main downside to yesterday was the referee. It was strange, he seemed to be favouring us in decisions for the first 20 minutes and then after that, it was ridiculous. Yellow cards being dished out for challenges by our players (some deserved, some not so) but no consistency with similar challenges from St. Johnstone. Nothing was done about the systemastic taking out of our players throughout the games, with some players hitting a good few tackles but no bookings for persistent fouling. The penalty was a stonewaller, but the referee ended up in a terrible position. Both him and the linesman would not have been in a position to give the penalty as they wouldn't have seen it. Potential 3-0 and them down to 10 men then would have made the end of the game a lot more comfortable for us.

Bring on the Jambos next week!

Did look like that.

Maybe that's why Langfield just stood and watched, then made a feeble dive as it trundled by him. :banghead:

We haven't seen the best of Hayes yet, I think he's going to get better and better with each game. His workrate is immense and I agree he's going to be a very important player for us.

Hope we kick on from this & approach the Hearts game in the same positive way.

Hearts are no great team the now. They've lost some big players & we should be the stronger team than them at home.

Only team I see in the SPL close to us (other than septic) is probably utd.

We should be more than able to beat them all but utd would be the ones I'd be less confident of beating. especially with you know who in bloody goal :suicide:
