Keeper On Trial - Sebastian Gessl

Recommended Posts

Must be a bit shit for Craddock when he's basically being told he's worse than a guy who plays for the reserves of a German Second Division side. Why don't we trust our youth? if he's no better than that guy we've got on trial, get rid of him and bring through another keeper who is. But I suspect that's not the case.

Exactly. Worst case scenario is that we have to play Craddock for part of a game.

The Rogers is recalled and fills in until Lewis is back.

Just to confirm...

Are any of the people moaning about taking a keeper from obscurity in a lower German league on a trial basis the same people who whinge when other teams find obscure players from lower leagues that turn out to be brilliant and bemoan our lack of ability to do the same?

Hopefully not as that would be fucking stupid.

It's highly unlikely he's going to be brilliant if he's not even first choice of a 2nd division German side.

They probably are.

At the end of the day his guy is only going to be squad cover and hopefully he is never needed.

Would rather the recruitment focus is on the other areas we need to fill.

No reason we can't do both though...he's probably cheap as hell. Like Bertrand Bossu...shite but would work for a camp bed in the dressing room and a poke of chips.

Always a chance they might be a gem too.

What part of "Reserve goalie of a German 2nd division side" don't you understand? He's hardly going to be brilliant.

but if he was starting for Real Madrid, he would hardly be obscure would he?

You realise that signing a player from relative obscurity requires a team to see potential that others miss right?

Or do you reckon that they are just taking him on trial to piss people off?

See what you are saying, the flip side of that is "fans and players alike won't find this exciting".

Also, can you give examples of obscurely-sourced players who went on to become a success?

What are we going to find in this guy, over a week long trial, that his previous team were unable to in over FOUR years? Besides, even if he passes the trial and comes on board, he could be absolutely amazing but unless Lewis gets an injury he's unlikely going to get any game time and released once Rogers is back.

Then St Mirren would have a real dilemma. A goal keeper without the use of his arms or pluck their GK coach from retirement. Go with Rodgers and hope theres no crosses would be my advice.

Is Rogers even first choice at St Mirren? Noticed he was on the bench as they got pumped 6-0 by Sunderland, which may mean he is now first choice.

If we've sent him there to be a back-up it makes no sense.

No reason we CANT do both but as we appear to be struggling to bring in targets the smart strategy would be to get a sub keeper in without fuss and focus all the effort on players who might actually play.
