its more the fact its going to put my insurance up that im ragin!

No its not. You'll have an extra years's no claims when it comes round again, and they're hardly going to hammer you for one small f@ck-up. Its not like you wre doing 90 in a 30 at hit someone on a zebra crossing.

its just maddening its at a bit which has only recently been reduced, in an area i obviously dont know and i genuinely thought i was within the limit...wonder what my chances would be if i did go to court instead...i could reveal a previously hidden natural skill and go on to freelance as a lawyer, specialising in dodging speeding penalties!

To be fair, I think that speed limit has been there for at least 2 years now.

Pain in the arse. I got caught on the A90 just outside Edinburgh where they start the 40mph speed limit about a mile before you even hit a built up area.

If anything i'd think it's been there for nearer 4 years.

Everything there is 100% legal in scotland.

And as I said, you have provided the information required under section 184 of the RTA, but by not signing it you have not admitted guilt without a caution. To be forced into signing a NIP in scotland without such a caution is a violation of your civil liberties.

If you don't believe me, it's your hard cheese.

or you can go and read about the plentiful successful people who follow this route on www.pepipoo.com in scotland. Then bleat about it if you think I'm telling fibs.

If you were genuinely out of the country etc fair enough but if not then intentionally lying to the Police to avoid prosecution is against the law, the legal definition of this being 'making a false statement' and it is an attempt to pervert the course of justice. If you reckon it is worth lying to the cops to get off with a 60 quid speeding fine then fire on mate. To be perfectly honest, it's much easier to pay the fine and get on with your life than jump through the hoops that you are speaking about. Every man for themselves though. Just hope for your sake that if you lie to the cops to get off with a petty speeding fine you don't get caught.

you wouldn't be lying to the police. You'd be communicating with Nescamp. A profit making organisation whose sole purpose is to make profit.

Forget what you read, the average number of fatalities and serious accidents have increased in Scotlands 'A' roads since the introduction of GATSO's and safety (s)camera partnerships year on year. They are not improving road safety, they are purely making money. I for one, am not prepared to line their pockets and install more "safety" cameras.

Don't get me wrong, speeding is not something I condone, but getting fined for doing 13mph over a 50mph speed limit is taking the urine in my opinion.

On this particular area in question - it's obvious that there is a price of life applied here. Camera installed because of fatal/serious accidents. Why not install a flyover/underpass instead of a reduced speed limit and camera?

I'm still not sure how so many of you have managed to be caught.

I spend a lot more time above the speed limits than below them yet I've never been caught.

If you're going to speed you need to have your wits about you - for more reasons than one.

Tainboy speaks the truth.

Besides how could the police prove if you have or havenot been away from your home address? Surely everybody can claim they've been on summer holidays in june/july

I've got a book about it which I got from the back of the topgear mag, it is quite good and informative.

I did read somewhere that there is a guy who has started to work as a Lawyer specialising in speedin cases because he found out that all speed detectors must be home office approved and that some of the police ones aren't.

That 50zone has been there for aslong as I can remember everyone always tries to race my dad when it turns to 70 again.

Both my brothers and my dad constantly speed but only my mum has been caught speedin at 70 on the A947 whereas Dad has been well over a tun

Let's be clear, there are some absolute fannies on the road. I've had a knob ends in a BM flashing me to pull over as I'm trying to pass a bus (as fast as I can in a 1.6 Ford Focus) on a dual carriageway on the A9 ( I choose this moment to slow down to the same speed as the bus. They can ram it.)

Thsee idiots can feck off as far as I'm concerned but speeding does not necessarily mean you are driving irresponsibly. I drive at the speed I feel safe and I'm not endagering the lives of others. Sometimes this is 30, 40, 50, 60, 70. Sometimes it's 100.

While I'm not doubting what Tainboy says, is it really worth the hastle?

A couple of years ago I was caught speeding near Stonehaven (80 odd in a 70 zone) and got caught by a fixed camera. I work abroad so when I got home the wife was going nuts as she had the coppers round 3 times when I'd been away!!! Obviously I was not at home to recieve the letter the sent and thought that I could spin it out a bit and they would forget about it. They came round when I was at home. I tried the old I want to see the photo, calibration certs, etc, they all arrived the next morning!
And it is down to you to provide them with the name of who was driving the car. If you can't then it is assumed it was you (as you are responsible as it is your car) the only way round this would be to have reported the car stolen at the time of the speeding offence.
i also paid over 20 quid for that frigging sh*te ebook about "how to avoid speeding fines, don't bother it's also a load of sh*te based on ENGLISH law, not Scottish.

In short, save yourself loads of hasstle and just accept the fine and penalty points. You shouldn't have been speeding excessively anyway!!!: - (

The oldest excuse in the book.

As mentioned already, There is several signs prior to that area telling you the speed limit is 50 mph.

The bottom line is you broke the speed limit by over 25% , Thats the way the authorities look at it.

The speed limit on that road has never been 60 so it's not really much of an excuse.

its a reason, not an excuse. i wasnt careering down the road zig-zagging out of traffic. i was sitting comfortably at 3mph over what i thought was the speed limit.

the fact that 90% of people caught were UNDER 70, kinda backs up my point about it not being well enough known, as they obviously didnt think they were speeding either

Shut up and pay the fine!

Fallons goal was a fluke, could try it 100 times and he'd be lucky to do it more than 5.

Darren Mackie could try it 100 times and he'd be lucky to hit the ball more than 5...

If you're joining a gym or a health club I'd give it a week... All the fucking no hopers have started this week clogging up your workout whilst hogging the machines you want to use... The pool I go to was fucking hoaching with fucking water treaders in the fast lane today - fuck off with your breast stroke in the fast lane, and you fucking old wifies having a wee chat in the medium lane... Get Tae.... You want to have a gas, stick your head in an oven...

Although I have every sympathy if it was a genuine mistake where the signage isn't clear, why should the tax payer have to foot all that time-wasting if the form filling is a matter of chancing your arm? It's just another case of trying to cheat the system.

And yes, I have been known to go over the limit (not persistently), but I'm prepared to face the consequences should I get caught, not do everything I can to wriggle off the hook.

Take the punishment like a man! "Only" 13 mph over the limit is a heck of a lot!

They are a total pain in the hoop aren't they! I got caught whilst driving from Aberdeen to Inverness by a runt poking out the back of his van. Worst thing about it was the location. Right over the brow of a hill on one of the few overtaking lane sections. Finally you have the chance to overtake so of course I am going to speed up to get past the lorry ahead. Low and behold, when I get to the top of the hill I see the van and hit the brakes but by that time it was too late.

Bunch of money grabbers put me in a bad mood the rest of the way up. Fair enough I was going too fast and I can't deny that but shouldn't they be catching folk speeding in 30mph built up areas where it is actually dangerous?!

Grrrr!

That location sounds familiar, it wouldn't be just before Keith heading towards Inverness it's just about where Aberdeenshire and Morayshire meet, you are on a hill and yes they do sit at the end, I got caught there and when I went to Inverurie to pay the fine etc the lady told me that is their favourite spot and loads of drivers are caught there.

I think that is the Laurencekirk speed camera going south. It's pretty much the same going north, except I think there is a lay-by. Had a laugh to ourselves yesterday going through it. There are so many bl**dy speed camera's on that road tho.
