i think they work as well as any other.  depending on the people involved, like any relationship.

 

my dad took up with my stepmum when he was in his mid-40s, and she, mid-20s.  it lasted longer than his first marriage of 23 years.  that said, if you (or she) intends for it to be come long-term, the one practical question you may want to ask yourself is if you're prepared to become a father again in your 50s or 60s, if children are what she wants.

Mate of mine in his late 40's is married to someone 18 years his junior. Have to admit we were all that bit jealous as he was still out partying it up at weekends and enjoying holidays to Ibiza etc. while we were all getting on with our own families.
