We never thought that – when it came to it – our painfully acquired freedoms would be strangled by a jolly, obese, blond Etonian.

Or that a people once famed for their fierceness and independence would be tamed into muzzled, mumbling submissives by a little well-orchestrated fear propaganda.

Hitchens on the money as usual

Some of that i can see where he’s coming from but for the most  part he goes off on weird tangents .

Hard to take seriously.

No he thinks England is a shithole and we'd be better off without them. Hitchens gets a lot of stick without people actually reading what he says.

He hates the Tories, more than any columnist I've ever read, yet people call him a tory. It's bizarre.

"

So I could never really join in what I saw as a shallow English resentment at the Scottish aspiration for independence. The Scots are a people, Scotland is a country, and the demand for self-rule is reasonable. We wasted many years, and made enemies out of friends, by refusing Home Rule to Ireland. Why make the same mistake again?

I couldn’t be romantic about it because I understand – as most in Britain do not – that there is no true independence for any territory ruled by the EU. But I could see why Scots got cross when they were told separation from England would make them poorer.  So what? The power to rule yourself is priceless. Isn’t our history full of people who put liberty above money?"

Good stuff fae this bird. She's a wee cracker as well.

If that was her "lived experience" (to borrow a term I've heard from BLM protesters) then who is anyone to argue with it? Her story actually mirrors a few I've heard locally as well, they've never been so quiet.

Still not got the mental fortitude to stick to the (likely made up) block?

Weakling

1. I don't think i am more concerned than "the rest of the population".

2. Being "overly" concerned would relate to the threat/danger. What the rest of the population think would be irrelevant.

I try to base my view on this on facts, on science, on research. That's what I'll always do. I'm pretty content with the progress Scotland is making at present. Winter is a concern though.

Whats your solution, Giblets?

My solution is crack on with life.  Just been to the cinema with the kids, it was good because there was hardly anyone there 'cos everyone is too feart to go out.  Cineworld aren't feart at the prices for a couple coffees and some popcorn though.

The threat/danger is minimal now in my opinion after doing some scientific research, more harm being done than prevented

That's pretty much what we're doing. The fact you've just went to the cinema is surely an indication of that?

What did you see? Tenet looks good but given you were with the kids, I'm guessing it wasn't that.

The government has put the fear of God into some people Bluts. Scurrying around in their daft wee masks sanitising their hands every 5 minutes.

One thing covids has proven is the general public are gullible  fuckin idiots.

However all governments are benign and will never take advantage of this.

The government paid social media influencers to promote the NHS Test and Trace service, it has confirmed.

Instagram influencers, including Love Island stars, were paid an undisclosed amount to make posts during lockdown.

The social media posts were part of a wider campaign to inform the public about the programme.

"Our use of social media influencers has meant over 7 million people have been reached," said a spokesman for the government.

"As a responsible government, we will use every means possible to keep the public informed during the pandemic and raise awareness of NHS Test and Trace.

"This is just one part of a wider campaign utilising TV, radio, social, print and other advertisements to ensure the public has the information it needs."

Wonderful use of tax.

Have you all been helping out by eating out? If not, why not? Today is your last opportunity.

I was planning on it before the Aberdeen lockdown, I see a few places are continuing it for September, including one of my local pub/restaurants so will try to take advantage.

Loads of places in FK doing continuing deals. With reduced capacities in force, it can be difficult to get a booking in the good places.

I was very sceptical of the policy but it definitely seems to have got folk out and supported hospitality at a time it really needed it. I underestimated how much folk love to save £10 ?
