Another who had a shocker yesterday. His positional sense at times is non existent at times. Scott McKenna and Andrew Considine bailed him.out quite a few times yesterday. Jist is definitely out I'm afraid.

I guess the question would be is "would you play him ahead of Considine if all our defenders are fit?"

When I saw him after Hearts I thought yes definitely, but the last couple of games have made me doubt that call.

I'm prepared to give him time to settle and get further up to speed after a stop start pre-season though.

I believe he can be better, but needs work.

Very fair summary, KSL. Fingers crossed it works out for Greg Leigh and Aberdeen, of course, but I am sceptical. However, as you infer, he has plenty of time on his side in a position that had turned into a poisoned chalice ever since David Robertson left way back in 1991.

Am I the only one who has been quietly encouraged by him so far?

Granted I've only watched a few games but he seems to have a good work ethic, tidy on the ball and is keen to get forward and support when he can. I thought he was one of the only players to get pass marks yesterday

Still early days but I feel like I'm watching a different player to everyone else based on the comments in this thread!

I'll be honest I agree. He will be a good signing imo.

He frustrated me yesterday. When he has time to pick a pass (and it looks like he has) more often it ends up being hooked up the left wing to no one in particular or simply back to the opposition. No doubting his enthusiasm to get down the line as well but it’d be neat if he could beat a man or make a pass.

He is an extremely frustrating player who gets himself into promising positions but continually fails to deliver.

I actually get the impression hed be better suited at centre half than left back, he seems good in the air and strong enough defensively, just on the ball let him down a lot yesterday (although I'm sure it was him that delivered the cross for Cosgroves winner). Early days though.

He'll be solid enough for most games but agree the amount of times he lumped it up the wing to no one was infuriating, sadly he wasn't the only culprit of that yesterday.

Like when he assisted the goal?

I actually think he's too left footed as weird as that sounds or seems.

His inability to gather a pass on his right foot stunts the flow of a move. Seen it a few times now with him.

I do think he'll do fine for us though given time to settle.

Probably because of our teams desire to play a flat square ball around the back rather than in front of a player to run into and build momentum?

A lot of McInnes hate on here at the moment, but in both Leigh and Hedges he has made a couple of really good signings over last summer.

Hedges seems like the player McGinn was when we first signed him and Leigh has been a complete revelation. Versatile, comfortable on the ball and with a proper engine on him. We need him signed up long term
