1st time in a long time we've actually had a '3 pronged attack'. For years we've played Rooney up front and Hayes/McGinn supplying the crosses with a variation of wide players when either of those two were injured/sold. However, the choice of Wright sitting just behind May and making penetrating runs through the middle, coupled with Ross and GMS today, we had Midden on the ropes from the 1st minute and could have scored within 15 seconds.

Not saying Wright will play that role every week and McInnes may well choose to keep it a bit more compact, but I think playing the game on the deck and running at defenders, particularly at home, is something we should make use of more often. Fair enough away from home... maybe look to hit on the counter and get crosses in to Wilson. But crikey, we looked like a proper team today and as much as Midden were poor, they had little time to think about attacking and were blowing out their arses with the pressure we applied from kick off.

Unsurprisingly fizzled out, particularly when the impressive Frank Ross went off.

Gleeson made some great rangey passes but still looks a luxury player and not the badass we need in there to take control of midfield. Forrester - just not seeing what made us go and spend money on this guy.

Home tie next round please, but can almost put money on infirm away.

He’s fair put the weight on

Shite. Was right next to them as they were going through pre-match warm up and there's not an ounce of fat on him. Looks fit as a fiddle.

You seem the type who would applaud him too

Who, May? Why the hell not if he plays well. Arguably terrible last season, but he just needs a decent run of games. He's improving week on week from what i'm seeing and his touch is getting better.

not an even contest - but at least a little bit of a contest, this wasn't a contest

this was two premier league teams it wasn't anywhere near that I found the second half with us playing 20 or 30 passes across the back line and St mirren so scared to commit that even when they have a free kick wide on the half way line they take the option of playing back to the keeper.

It doesn't happen much at football but I was bored out my mind from about 4:15 onwards

The second half yup, so I feel your pain for the 4.15 onwards ;)

Stephen Gleeson is going to be an important signing. He's going to be first name on team sheet this season.

Bit of a head scatcher how DM is going to fit everyone in but I guess the time to worry about that is when everyone has been fit for a couple weeks in a row

Agree with most of what you said apart from comments about Gleeson. I don’t think he’s a luxury player at all. Controlled the midfield well, doesn’t over react when fouled and stays on right side of ref. There is no need being a badass midfielder, getting unnecessary yellows in a game that doesn’t need that type of tactic. Obviously get stuck in when required and I think he did ok v the zombies 2 weeks ago and next time we play he puts in a better shift. I think he’ll get better as the season progresses.

Ok, maybe luxury isn't quite the word I was after... but when a game calls for someone to roll their sleeves up and do the hard, gritty, dare I say it, Scott Brown type of work, I'm not sure he looks the type of player. Sure, wonderful distribution and controls the game when he's up against a midfield such as St Mirren.... but even at Dundee I thought he was fairly quiet.

Perhaps shouldn't be critical as he's only a few games into his career with us. I'd like to see someone in there next to him who is a true battler and box to box players, much like McLean was.
