I actually find your contribution to AFC Chat quite interesting and its good to see a different perspective on Scottish football.

However here you are factually and philosophically wrong.

By the 2014 league cup final the debt was gone.

As far the comparison between the clubs finances,

1. Club A got into debt, paid its debt in full

2. Club H got into 3 or 4 times the debt and paid 2 pence in the £ of its debt.

Not really apples and apples.

Good post leftside, we cleared our debts by issuing new shares.

WHS, here's a list of people that you should thank for winning the SC as their businesses took the hit for your day in the sun.

Hearts even robbed the Aberdeen Holiday Inn out of a £58 bar bill the thieving bastards. Shameful club. Hope they rot in the lower leagues for years.

I think it's good to have a fan of a lower league minnow-club on the forum - give us some perpective on their wee priorities.

Hearts will stay up when Accies and St Celtic go into admimistrstion in the next few weeks.

Doncaster especially deserves zero support.

Totally min - and you can add Scunthorpe to that while you're at it. Pudding-munching cunts. Fuck them.

We were hamstrung by that debt for years costing us a fortune in interest. Didn’t welch on it and pay back 2p in the £ though unlike you tinpot yo-yo cunts

Exactly. Anyone trying to compare the two situations is just not dealing with reality.

Aberdeen never defaulted on their debt and were never ever going to. The debt hamstrung the club financially for many years because they never took the easy option of going into admin. Plus the Donald's got a 10% shareholding in the club for their part in paying off the debt.

Hearts defaulted on near £30m of debt an absolutely staggering figure for a non old firm Scottish club. Aberdeen had under £15m of debt which was paid off and no-one was left out of pocket and on their knees. A large chunk of that debt was the building of the Dick Donald stand it wasn't to fund a massive squad of players where the wage bill was well over 100% of the clubs turnover which is what happened at Hearts. There is literally zero comparison.

The last 3 Scottish cups Hearts have won were all through overspending way beyond their means. They cheated. I hope they do sue the SPFL and it results in them being penalised through a transfer embargo.

Just in case anyone has forgotten Hearts have been relegated 5 times since 1975.

I have a feeling Doncaster is terrified of Hearts taking legal action. I think it would be a risk for Budge to go down that route but there is no doubt that they do have a case that they can argue...probably marginally less than 50/50 chance of them succeeding. If they lost, it would certainly mean administration as they'd likely have the costs of the case awarded against them. But if it came off they'd be quids in and the SPFL facing costs that they themselves can ill afford.

I had it in my head the Donald’s paid £3-4m to clear our debt. Not sure why though.

The whole ‘£15m debt’ that we had, what did we borrow originally for the RDS? And how much did we pay back to the bank including the interest over the years?

£15m minus the Donald’s payment would be my guess.

Lots of Scottish clubs did around that era in the 90's though in forlorn attempts to try to keep up with the old firm (Hearts included under Chris Robinson). Non old firm clubs then realised it was a waste of time and generally cut their cloth accordingly. Hearts however didn't learn from previous experiences and just went crazy at a time when the rest of Scottish football had long since realised that competing against Celtic and Rangers was nothing more than a pipe dream.
