The week before Iprix cost us IMO.
What I mean is, Rangers lost 3-0 away to Motherwell.
Motherwell made it 3-0 in the last minute.
If it has stayed 2-0, we’d have been second & HAD to win at the bastard garden.
That 3rd ‘Well goal meant we were top & gave us the option of drawing,
It fucked up Alex Smith, he changed the team, bringing in Van de Ven & dropped a striker.
The mindset was changed from the previous 10-12 games.

Exactly this and Van De Ven missed a decent chance early on also

2 chances. And Smith settled for the draw the first meaningful game in Glasgow we’d done so for 10 years.

We dropped points in loads of games we should’ve been winning that season. It was only after we’d got knocked out of the cup by Motherwell that we then went on a great run in the league , winning about 12 games and dropping only one point before the decider against the Huns.

Aye, if I remember right he was through on Woods & tried to lob him... only for it to be a comfortable catch at chest height for the hun.
The first goal in that gave was as big as it gets.
If we’d got it the scum would’ve crumbled.
My saddest footballing day by a mile.
Irony it was on the 11th May too.

Remember flying up from London to Aberdeen on the Friday night to lap up some of the atmosphere. Horrific weekend. Flew back early.

League Cup semifinal 1976, 5-1 at Hampden, Harper, Jarvie, Jocky Scott etc etc.

Fucking ace humiliating them bams.

EDIT - Shit, this is supposed to be Pittodrie wins against them? Fuck it, a wins a win anywhere v them bastards.

Durrant Game

Was in the South with my old man and his pal

I was 8 and hated Neale Cooper IIRC

Doubler.

South stand with my old man.

Back in the day when you could give the mannie at the turnstile some cash to just let you in.

I would have been 10 and hated the antics of cooper that day.  Was he not giving the finget to the main stand when he came out to warm up, or when the teams ran out ?

Not sure about that but he definetly "gesticulated" to the main stand when he scored. What was that about? I'm sure I read somewhere that it was directed at Ian Donald because he had contacted AFC and said he wanted to return, but Donald said no.

Went into the home dressing room by mistake at half time too.

RIP, Gothenburg hero and all that, but he was an all round cunt that day.

My over riding memory from that day, other than a sense of almost Inevitability was a referee losing control of something that was always going to be volatile as hell. Iirc the durrant injury was about number 5 in a series of tackles all of which were easily bookings at least with more than a few intended to injure. If you remember some of Souness’ own efforts in the 18 month lead up period he had an entire team doing the same by that point. But as is typical with the hun you fight fire with fire and someone gets burned. But it’s never their fault.

Indeed he always used to tell this story at Afterdinner events. Misses out the bit at the end on this on when looks over and Fergie is giving him the big thumbs up.

This is the Celtic game you’re referring to, when he played for the Dons? Nicholas tackle?

Yes link nae work?

You tube Neale Cooper on Charlie Nicholas tackle.

But the jist CN the main danger for Celtic and Cooper was pumped by Fergie all week to take him outright asap.

Duly does so in about 10s even the Aberdeen players thought it was a shocker and he looked to the dugout and got a massive thumbs up

I remember I listened to the game on the radio and my old man let me stay up and watch the highlights on a school night. A great memory. Fucking destroyed them. School next day was great. Glory hunters still around in abundance.

Similar to you, except I wasn't aware of the score. Was still in primary school at that time.Mind waiting and waiting for Sportsnight was it,Harry Carpenter? . Then the programme arrived and you had to wait another age for the Scottish highlights.

When the game did come on though, couldnt believe what I saw,5 - 1 ???...off to bed in a daze.Bearing in mind, this is not long after the bonthrone era, results like that just didna happen in Glasgow, never mind 5 - 1.Great memory

Not the biggest in score line, but in terms of importance, the 1-0 win when Gilhaus scored in the 90th minute in March 91.
It was the spring board to take us to the top of the league in May, only to blow it in the last game.

Absolutely this. Legendary South Stand bounce.

Remembered the goal once I saw it right enough.
