A new slave cylinder for a skoda superb clutch system.

Slave cylinder cost: £ 45

Labour cost to fit: Ten billion pounds.

I like the car, but dismayed that to fit a low cost part on my model, (which do often fail), the bell housing and gear box need to be removed.

Can only presume Skoda contracted that bit of the design out to French engineers, (French car makers revel in making things inaccessible).

Think the Mondeo and Passats were designed by the same engineer and the design was flawed for clutch replacements where a simple fix ends up costing a fortune in labour. I’m assuming the Superb is based around the same design

Edit: just looked it up.....it is. Fuck those bastards

^^this, though thankfully eh can now afford better than French cars

See the modern ones dont even have a cd player and most of the radio & dashboard controls is on a touch screen = death trap.

You can easily feel for a button or dial on the dash, without taking your eyes off the road, but a touch screen needs more attention, esp if not used to it.

Fucking french.

its ridiculous. Apparently some other models of superb are not the same, but my version of the diesel engine and the 4x4 system means its a pig of a job.

So bad in fact, it was proposed to me to change the clutch at the same time, but that made it too expensive at this juncture.

The guy actually had a horror story about passat clutches - a bit can break off and it leaves a wee stub, which can then drill a hole in the gearbox = lovely.

Fortunately, when he had mine all open, he confirmed it was a different clutch design I had.

My car (not French) also has a touch screen and, as you say, it's a fucking nightmare trying to change stations/songs/etc. when driving.

Same with phones. It used to be a piece of piss to text and drive at the same time. However it's much more difficult with touchscreen phones. So much so that I don't even bother trying now (also because i'm a responsible kinda guy).
