Scotland Vs Belgium/albania

Shinnie if you're being realistic.

With Tierney set to play as a central defender in this squad, Shinnie is likely in the squad as back up left wing back to cover Robertson so I couldn't see Jack playing out there.

Looks to me like Shinnie's commitment to going away with Scotland during the summer just before his wedding has been rewarded & put him ahead of Barry Douglas who pulled out of that squad as he had a itchy toe nail which made him unavailable to play

Amen. Everyone getting caught up in this shit he's playing well every week. Bit of pressure and he's lost. And he's a hun. And a prick. Fuck him.

Sonoftherock is just looking forward to the Scotland chapter of Ryan Jack’s autobiography when it comes out in ten years.

It's Scotland, we don't pick players on current form......it takes ages for players to be considered out with the current favourites and by the time we pick them they've gone off the boil

Extremely true. Especially with strikers

Kris Boyd banging them in? Pick Steven Fletcher

Steven Fletcher banging them in? Pick Kenny Miller

Kenny Miller banging them in? Play 4-6-0

Griffiths banging them in? Time to give Chris Martin from Coldplay a run

Couldn't get too upset with that.

A few of the young players have said Mulgrew has been brilliant for them, talking them through games etc. Don't rate him to highly but it's maybe a means to an end.

Aye it’s no shock that I’m not a fan of Mulgrew but as you say from a more experienced player like him to be a mentor for the young players and it is a very young squad which is great to see. Here’s hoping over the next few years there’s another bunch of youth players ready to make the step up

Exactly this! Look at Ryan Christie, he was on fire, not picked, form dipped, in you go you looked okay a season ago, it’s a constant joke

In the Spiders Web, there is a picture of the Scotland squad with Jamie Langfield in it

Always raises a chuckle from me, when in.

Waterboy?

The cunt can't even look after his own kids ffs how can he mentor others. Hand them an iPad & say 'I'll be back in a minute'?

...and Matt Ritchie.  Looks so good for Newcastle, but has never turned up for Scotland.

He's scored 3 in 16 games, not sure how many assists.  Given the recent under performance of our national squad, he is essentially, the best of a bad bunch.

We do have a glut of wingers though, so it would be nice to see Fraser/GMS picked ahead of him, or Robertson moved up to a more attacking wide role with Tiernay/Shinnie backing him up.  They're all quicker.

On current form, I think GMS should be in the squad.  He has had an excellent start to the season.  Similarly Devlin should be in ahead of Jack hendry, not sure why he is there at all to be honest. Has McTominay actually played for Man United this season?  Delighted to see that the only sevco addition is the 3rd choice goalkeeper.

GMS - yes, he's only played once before unbelievably.

Devlin has had a good start for us and if he and McKenna go on to be a solid partnership could be this generation's Miller and Mcleish, but Hendry is old firm, so will get the nod, sadly.  Hopefully he gets injured and Septic are left with nae centre-backs. Ha ha!

Andy Robertson could play left wing for Scotland no problem at all which means he could play Tierney at left back.  Signs are he might go with a back 3 though.  In that case he could play Tierney left wing back and Robertson has the ability to play left of the 3 in midfield, like Shinnie does for us.  There's plenty of ways he can get Robertson and Tierney in the same team without playing Tierney at right back.  Robertson has to be the first name on the teamsheet, he's our best player by a country mile.

Fraser should definitely be in the team ahead of Paterson or Forrest either at right wing when playing 4 at the back or right wing back when he plays 3 at the back.  Another player who should be one of the first on the teamsheet and given a run of games.

Looks like he wants Mulgrew in the defence regardless of 3 or 4 at the back.  McKenna is a stick on to be in there too.  Probably between Hendrie and Souttar for the other spot though Devlin has a chance if he keeps his early Aberdeen form up.  The boy from Leeds was highly rated before, not sure if he is getting a game under Bielsa?

There's a real opportunity to play a young and exciting team here which can form the basis for the next two or three tournaments.  Problem is up front.  The options there are pretty threadbare.  Griffiths, McBurnie or shoehorning Phillips in there seem to be the only real options at the moment.  We need some young strikers coming through and getting first team games.

If Robertson is our best player then play him in his position. LWB.

How do you know this? He has literally never played there. Apart from being on the same flank, the positions are not really the same at all

Also, Gareth Bale used to be a left back.  But Spurs realised he had the attributes to play further forward.

Van Bronkhurst was an attacking midfielder in Holland and at Rangers.  When he went To Barcelona he played left back as he had the attributes to play there and they had better forward players.

Ideally you want to have 11 players playing in their favourite positions.  But it can't be set in stone.

Gareth bale wasn't a very good left back though and was being played out of position by redknapp

Fair enough. The general point though was that it's sometimes better to play someone out of their favoured position for the benefit of the team as a whole provided they have the attributes to play there.

I don't think Robertson has the attributes, and believe the team would benefit having him play in his strongest position...
