  1. I don't have a clue what is actually going on behind the scenes but say the murmurings are on the right track and we've been trying candidates of the calibre of the likes of Thelin and the Rijeka manager, I wonder if it's time we start adjusting our approach? I just don't think the Aberdeen job or any of our similar-sized rivals in Scotland are going to be seen as anything other than sideways steps at best from Elfsborg and Rijeka. Leaving aside a meddling chairman, if that's the case (again I don't have a clue), you've got a 12-team league that is badly marketed and heavily weighed in favour of two insufferable sides in every sense from the financial aspect to actual governance. Why would you leave a country where you can feasibly target winning the league for that? The problem is adjusting the ambition leaves you at best with domestic candidates like Lennon, Neil and O'Neill and overseas candidates in the mould of Ricardo Rodriguez or whoever. Perhaps this has become a realisation for the board throughout this process, perhaps we're just a basket case. Who knows.
  2. Jonny Hayes and/or Stuart Duff before him I would guess.
  3. Bit of a Barry Robson in Europe vibe about their approach so far tonight.
  4. He has mentioned several times now that the football association did well out of him going to Stoke which makes me think he has some sort of agreement with them this time around that means they won't stand in his way if a suitable return to club management comes up. I don't envisage the length of his deal being an issue at all.
  5. Dean Holden has pretty good experience for that sort of role tbf.
  6. I suspect the introduction of a technical director would be with a view to phasing Gunn out. But I agree about there being too many layers at the club. For me I'd be happy enough to see Gunn and Burrows go - haven't seen any evidence of good they have done at the club in recent years. If they were gone and you had a competent technical director with more of a mixed football/corporate background and separately you had your commercial team then surely that would be a better structure.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised either - doesn't mean I have any clue who the next manager is going to be. Robinson's 'big game' record at St Mirren has also been found wanting. It's become a bit of a joke among their supporters that they don't turn up when there's a bit of an occasion. You only need to look at them shipping five goals to Killie in 18 minutes in front of 2,000 travelling supporters for evidence. Not for me.
  8. Whether you like the sound of Michael O'Neill or not, people completely disregarding international football and acting as if there aren't transferable skills managing in that sphere and managing in club football is a bit strange. I'd probably be underwhelmed by his appointment but he's shown evidence of being a decent tactician and man manager at NI, getting the best out of a fairly limited group of players in the process. I'm going to guess those traits would do us a turn. It's the longevity of it I'm not convinced by. I don't know that it makes sense with what we purport to be trying to install at the club.
  9. 26 shots against Hacken I think you'll find.
  10. Agreed. I can see why some think an overseas appointment is more of a risk in our current situation given there's more of an unknown about it and if we get it wrong we could go down. But of the candidates that have knowledge of Scottish football (Lennon,Neil, Robinson) two of those for me look very short-termist. I could just about get on board with Neil. No matter where they come from what we need is someone who can come in and galvanise a club, not just the squad - someone with a track record of taking a team from the bottom to competing at the top - regardless of where they arrive from.
  11. It should be Jacob Friis. Did a good job at Viborg and is now assistant manager to Jess Thorup (who I think we've approached previously) at Augsburg.
  12. Not as far as I'm aware but him and Baccus, who incidentally isn't getting a game at St Mirren, would be obvious signings for us, Hibs and Hearts. The players Hearts have actually signed on pre-contract aren't bad but they're not worth getting in a panic over.
  13. How long has Blair Spittal played at this level and how long has he flattered to deceive? Same goes with Mark O'Hara - avoid. We could do with some players who are proven in Scotland but I won't lose sleep over Dhanda (technical ability but a luxury player), Spittal and Penrice. Jesus. Baccus and Phillips both seem no brainers. If Hearts picked either of them up they'd be doing good business.
