Might go against the grain here, and as much as I'd love an away day I'd rather not be in Europe than be there for finishing third.

Far too early a start to the season - 3rd July. The start for finishing second is slightly better, being two weeks later, but still early for competitive football.

3 or 4 rounds to the Group stages too, which is a very tall order.

Could just be a distraction that, if remotely successful, leads to fatigue later in the season if I'm honest.

On the other hand we're then better prepared for hitting the ground running in the league as we are prepared for competitive football earlier.

As for fatigue later in the season point. It hasn't exactly affected Motherwell & (especially) St Johnstone now has it? We're most likely only speaking about two, or maybe four games extra in all honesty & if we do really well & have to play even more games then all the fkn better

Tend to agree. However, the other side of the coin is, even if we can only finish 3nd in the league, will be a massive increase in SPFL prize money, compared to 4th. Trade off being the players will have about a four week summer break.

Will be interesting how McInnes factors this in, bearing in mind how successful the boot camp in Warwick Uni was last year.

Season ends May 11th, we may have to play a Euro tie on July 3rd, so needs the players back, say, mid June, one week training at home, another in Warwick, puckle pre season games, then we're into Europe.

If we lose that Euro game, not sure what McInnes plans would be for the rest of July.

Or he could use The McGhee Method whereby he does absolutely zero prep for the start of the season, then deflects blame for his miserable performance by claiming someone gobbed on him.

Great days.

To be fair McGhee did have a pre-season series of matches in England - Tamworth, Port Vale and Brighton. And Clangers scalded his foot in the bus.
