Aberdeen sack Derek McInnes

Recommended Posts

The lad Potter at osterund or whatever they're called has some interesting ideas and has obviously done well.

The sort of candidate we wouldn't look at these days I'd say.

He's gaining a bit of a reputation now so that boat may have sailed.

Tricky thing is finding a really good coach before it's painfully fucking obvious to everyone else just how good he is.

Or just appoint a safe, experienced but unlikely to be incredible coach.

This was always going to be a difficult season, after a few players left last season.

However had McInnes had the balls to introduce a few youngsters, instead of only McKenna after a Motherwell humping, the fans would have much more patience and understanding.

Noticed that one of the under 20's lads scored a hat trick against Celtic yesterday. Should he not get on bench instead of Maynard come Sunday? If they're good enough they're old enough!!!!

Started off ok though didn't he?

I rate Clarke but so far all he's done is take an underperforming team and set them on the way to being where they had been in the league not so long ago.

Let's see if he can raise Killie to 4th. That would be some doing.

Until then I don't really get the love-in for him on here.

For the past 10 games he tops the league with Killie

I think he is a fantastic manager and also think he destined for bigger things. He has taken a team that was going nowhere and has turned them into a difficult team to beat. Granted we have had the better of them and out of 16 league games he has lost only 3 of them... 2 of them to us. We must be their bogey team :-). Since he took over he has taken 8 points from a possible 12 against Celtic and Rangers. We have taken zero this season.

Indeed.

If McInnes had managed that, we'd be 4 points clear at the top of the league.

With another game v the hun to make that gap 7.

Brings into sharp focus how utterly woeful and contemptible DMs record v the cheeks actually is.

It's fucking unacceptable.

Thing is he gives Maynard no time to actually do anything?

He had plenty minutes at the start of the season and has shown nothing. I'd far rather see McLennan getting 10 minutes at the end than Maynard. At least McLennan might be decent and have a future with us. Maynard will be gone as soon as his contract expires.

Sad thing is, in excess of 15000 Dandies will turn up on sunday already knowing what will be about to unfold in front of their very eyes

Even in the shitiest of shitey days following AFC, you always had a chance v the JJs. Now, its already decided beforehand, that McInnes will play some convoluted formation, with square pegs in round holes, and the inevitable outcome

Agree about Maynard. Disgrace that he gets a place even on the bench. And Greg Stewart for that matter. 2/7s of the bench wasted

Even just taking 6 points from 12 would have been great. Even just 3 or 4 points more from the OF teams would have made the season look so different for us.

This is what people are frustrated, its not bed wetting, its just the sheer frustration of collapsing in ALL of those OF games.

Yep and in fact with the way we have failed so far against Celtic and Sevco there might even be a good argument to play 1 or 2 of the younger lads, sometimes a young lad can play on this sort of game with no fear, bringing lots of energy and enthusiasm and really lift the players around them.

Strange that he decided to play 3 youngsters against the huns at Pittodrie when he thought he might be moving on, but hasn't given Ross or Harvie a look in ever since.

It's worth remembering that Celtic and Rangers both raise their game against us. It's not that black and white.

He certainly does but let's see how he is doing after another 20 or 30 games assuming he stays that long. I can't be bothered checking but there was probably a time around the end of November that Robinson/Motherwell would have been near the top of a 10 game league and he was the next messiah and look at them now

As an aside over that same 10 game period we are equal with sevco on points, ahead of both Hibs/Hearts and only a point behind Celtic and those 10 games include Celtic/sevco/Hibs away and Hibs/Hearts home so not the easiest 10 games we will play yet we are still holding our own with our main competition.

I'm not entirely convinced he picked the team that day. That was at the time when he was absolutely expected to leave and then went on his 48 hour gardening leave a day or so later. As you say a most un-McInnes team that also included starting with Rooney, May, Stewart and Wright a few days only after playing six defenders against the same team and then to bring on two youngsters when the normal pattern would be to bring on a Ball/Arnason was very weird.

Did he pick the team the next game when he started Frank Ross?

I completely agree that not only our record but the 5 performances have been pitiful this season.

BUT

Let's not get carried away with us then being many points clear at the top. Who really believes that if we were ahead or close to Celtic and a real threat that they would have rested 7 players on Sunday so they would have more points as well if they thought they were in a real battle. Similarly who really believes that they would have bought nobody of note in January if they really thought they were in a title battle - they would do what it takes to ensure they win the league.

What those extra points against the OF would have ensured was a comfortable second place and for me much more importantly a real hope and expectation we could win the Scottish Cup this season
