Hibernian 2 - 0 Aberdeen

Recommended Posts

Just back home so slightly calmer after stewing in car for last 2 and a half hours. My tuppenceworth on today

Main reason for loss today was lack of effort/application/determination by players. We have too many average players to expect to beat Hibs away if we don't put in the effort. How many times could we not be arsed going with their runners?

Derek I'm a fan but FFS stop fucking playing 3/5 at the back as our players haven't a clue or the ability how to play it properly. 4231 every game and let others worry about us rather than us sacrificing our game to over worry about them.

Too many crap central defenders in our squad - needs to be cleaned out starting by not renewing AOC contract

Christie/GMS/McGinn didn't win a tackle between them, oh and Christie has no chance of making it with Celtic given how he has played recently

Chidi looked very competitive, won a number of good tackles in first half but obviously tired

Woodman had a few good saves but won't make it as a top class GK unless he sorts out his kicking

Pointless playing Rooney in a match like today when he gets no service

Stevie May looked fitter than I expected so I would start with him next week as we will need plenty of energy to press Celtic defense if we are to get anything out of game next week

I know he's not been great most of the season but what has Greg Stewart done to merit not getting on ahead of Maynard?

We didn't lose because of the ref but Dallas is yet another in the line of refs that is either totally biased against us or just incompetent - some of the yellows today were just a joke

Hibs were decent today but let's not make them or their manager out to be the world beaters they are not - they didn't have to do anything special to beat us today

So Derek over to you. I'm a long time fan but even my patience is starting to wear thin. I remember all the bad days in the decade or so before you arrived so what you have done gets some benefit of the doubt from me. You did yourself no favours with all the Rangers shit. Your record against our main competitors is truly abysmal this season. Your squad is unbalanced with too many utility players that are not good enough in any single position. Next week let's have a proper go at Celtic playing our best players in

our best formation. If that means we get beat then so be it, I won't mind that if we have a proper go at winning instead of the usual meek surrender

I watched the second half on a stream. O'Connor was abysmal again, don't have a clue what Derek sees in him. He plays him CB then DM, Ball has looked much better than him.

If there's any sort of bright side from today it's that we usually bounce back from defeats pretty well. Unlucky for us it's against Celtic...

BBC Alba showed Nwakali got booked twice. Assumed they made a mistake.

But he looks like he gets stuck in, likely get sent off next week.

Our players seem to have big game bottle merchant mentality. Very rarely turn up in big games. Can win the games against easier teams which has maybe been costing hibs and Rangers this season.

Gonna be a real fight for second place this year

The formation change was prompted by (I believe) McInnes wanting to protect Considine against the pace of the Hibs team. GMS was playing in a wing back position.

3 CB's were deployed to deal with the physical presence of their 2 FWs.

The players we have /he picked aren't capable of playing that formation. 3 at the back has never worked for Aberdeen this season.

Therefore McInnes needs to shoulder the blame on this.

Against a pacey team most teams will sit a little deeper and nullify space and look to hit on the counter attack. Surely in our normal formation this would be possible.

Good Game management and tactics lacking again unfortuna

Hibs were very good, but by fuck did we let them play. Had the boy Jamie Maclaren been on his game they'd have handed out a proper doing.

McGinn, Allan* and McGeough all excellent for them. In comparison we missed Shinnie, and McLean and Christie were overrun. O'Connor is not good enough for us, he is a back-up player at best.

McLean had a few decent long range shots, that was about the height of our attacking threat.

The scary thing is we'll be even weaker in midfield next week. Shinnie and Christie out. Nwakali clearly needs a few games to settle in. O'Connor likely to be in midfield again. We've sent Frank Ross on loan when maybe it'd have been better to keep him.

*In summer I said we should sign him and was laughed at. The boy, on his game in a good midfield, is a top player.

There is absolutely no doubt that the manager has improved the team from the dross he inherited (Hayes / McGinn aside) but ffs, that does not get him a free pass for ever.

His record in the "big" games is shite - no room for debate there for any delusional fans.

In my opinion, Neil Lennon is a far better manager - his record in the games that matter is far superior.

I fear that we will be destroyed next week - even if, as I suspect, Celtic get turned over in Russia.

Games that matter? Considering it's three points on offer in every game, they all matter, and McInnes has more points than Lennon.

If Hibs-Aberdeen is a big game, then McInnes has a better record in it. He's won two of them this season and the Scottish Cup semi. Or is it only a big game when we lose?

If cup games are big games, then you might notice Hibs aren't actually in it anymore as they lost "a game that mattered".

People are getting over excited about Lennon because he's won at Ibrox twice (forgetting that they blew a 1-0 lead at home to Rangers and lost).

They were the better team today, but this obsession with picking opposition managers and arguing they're better than McInnes is a boring trend some seem to have developed. It used to be Tommy Wright, now he's struggling it seems Lennon is flavour of the month.

Why would we bin him? Youd rather have no money and he went to the Huns? Youd also have no money, he went to the Huns and we get shafted?

Foxtrot

Uniform

Delta

Not really what I said unless you take it out of context.

In hindsight my opinions are it would have been better he fucked off to the Huns when first linked or considered. that is my view regardless of how the finances would have worked.

They would have had to pay the compensation, or faced court battles & had to pay them or get forced into administration.

Even getting no money for him is better than being stuck with him if all he is going to do is continue to shit himself against them & in the majority of the bigger games.

Paying him off is not & never will be an option for numerous reasons but sadly most of those reasons are not based on performance because so many are happy with him. He is basically in a job for life if he wants & you can see this in his no risk, safety first approach to games more & more often now. He is unwilling to take chances for fear of losing his safety net of he job for life & chance of potential suitors getting put off if those risks were to fail.

At least they have tactical awareness. McInnes is so basic it is embarrassing. This is why he fails so often when he is forced to try & change things, or changes things for no reason other than fear but in a negative way. You still say McInnes is better than Lennon but I see no evidence that he is at all. I still maintain there is very little difference between them in terms of quality. None are all that special at all but I would prefer Lennon over McInnes because he at least has more than two pages in his play book.

I thought Lennon was no better than McInnes when at Celtic & I think the same now but McInnes is no better than Lennon either.

I do think there would be more chance of Lennon doing better than McInnes with us though because he wouldn't leave such glaring holes in areas of the team.

Michael Stewart picked up on this 10 mins in today. Given GMS was sitting back they just advanced one of their back 4 forwards which is why we looked overrun in midfield. We were. The spare man (McGinn and Rooney) were scratching their arses up front.

Derek doesn't like players that might rock the boat though, or have an original thought so he was out of the window before we'd have chance. Has a team of safe and nice and tidy players, I'm sure none of them forget to buy a mother's day card.

I think the evidence is more in the fearless way Hibs have tackled the old firm this season rather than their games against ourselves.

They have beaten the huns twice at Ibrox (should have beaten them at ER as well they battered them virtually the whole game) and have drawn twice against Celtic (very unlucky not to have beaten them at ER and have scored 2 or more goals against them on 3 separate occasions this season).

Hibs have scored 12 goals in 7 games against the ugly sisters this season (2 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats) conceding 14 in the process. Compare that to our performances against them this season which is 5 games and 5 defeats, 1 goal scored (none from open play or against 11 men) and 13 goals conceded.

Depressing reading.

Have Derek's balls retracted to a point where they cannot be scooped back out to the usual default location?

Which is dangling aboot on full show for all to witness?

He had them out for the games at Hampden and Ibrox at the end of last season.

Result being two decent and commendable showings.

WTF has got into his head that acting like a complete fucking pussy in comparable fixtures this season is the way to go about things?

It's completely unacceptable.

The actions of a 100% gutless loser.

Or a clueless cunt.

Or a combination of both?

Gads.

As for the game, not much in it til their goal.

Scrappy first half.

Game completely changed with that goal though.

Which was an extremely fortuitous one, with McLean's deflected tackle landing right at the striker's feet in space 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Same for the second. No actual through pass from the Hibs, with a deflection ending up with the ball at the striker's feet right in front of goal.

Could have done with a bit of luck at the other end in similar situations, but we'd probably have missed anyway.

Shit effort overall.

That ref is a fucking disgrace.

Looks like a scum-ridden, degenerate hun mutant.

Referees like one too.

Only saw the first half on Alba. Id say 50:50 albeit as you says ours was tidy stuff outside the box I.e creating fuck all whereas they were more direct. You dont get luck in the box if youre not in the box. And being clever with McGinn and Rooney up front and GMS pulled deep means fuck all if they flood the midfield where their natural strength lies anyway.

Honourable mention for Chidi. Looked a rite.

I'll save myself the bother of watching the highlights, reading this thread or the match reports and just assume this was a classic McInnes/Aberdeen failure with all the exact same problems and mistakes we now always have when we fuck up. And I'd guess no real attempt to solve any of them.

Pretty much. The worrying thing is that 7 of our last 11 SPL fixtures are against teams in the top 6. Add in Motherwell away and I'm not seeing a lot of points being gathered between now and May based on recent results against the better sides. McInnes has failed to address weaknesses in both his management and his team that have been seen by most supporters since the start of the season. He's got the chance to turn it around over these next 11 games, but first he'll need to admit he has been wrong so far in terms of selection and tactics in big games and an inability to get the best from certain players when it matters most. Interesting that he blamed the players yesterday. Was the fans a few weeks ago. He needs to look at himself if we are to have a strong end to the season.
