The Mckenna Dilemma

Recommended Posts

If you got offered 20 grand a week more you'd all be handing in your notice, he's just human.

A very replaceable defender, take the money we move on. He's no Harry Maguire, run of the mill carthorse. We win games in attack, any silly cunt can defend at our level.

He could've told the club months ago he wanted to move, why now. It's not like all this interest has come out of the blue.

"Show me the money" very apt. Love Tom cruise.

Coupla caps for Scotland in meaningless friendlies and he thinks he’s Airchie.

Forgets that’s he’s committed to a 4 year contract so it’s going to take a big chunk of change to break it.

£5m + and we get a solid pair of defenders in and we move on, otherwise your back in the squad - no player more important than what we are trying to achieve right now.

I agree he hasnt been really spectacular anyway, but he handed it in at such a important time for the club..had he waited to January and we had reached the group stages..then he would have had a whole better stage to show his talents..better money for the club and better than Championship for him.

He does not appear to be the brightest crayon in the box.

Tom English and Michael Stewart were both making the same point last night. English also called the request “low rent” from McKenna and/or his agent. Both thought it showed lack of respect to Aberdeen.

I am hoping Deke and Doch are working on him with this , its obvious he has a crooked agent not really seeing the long term

As that annoying Scunthorpe on Talk Shite Radio would probably say "Scott McKenna - is he all that?".

The answer is an emphatic no from me.

Would suggest we secure the best deal possible, sign a replacement and also work on an English Premiership loan deal for good measure, attempt to grind out a decent result in Croatia on Thursday evening and go for tie winning victory in a packed Pittodrie in the return.

Above all we do not require this matter to fester on for any length of time.

You'd like to think this will be sorted pronto however DM doesn't have a great history of sorting this kind of stuff out quickly. The Rodent, Shinnie and GMS transfer sagas all trailed on forever. Here's hoping it's sorted quickly this time.

DMc doesn't have to do anything. McKenna will be picked and playing on Thursday unless an appropriate offer is made. Go on strike ? Refuse to play ? Not exactly doing your chances of a move any good are you... To QPR or Notts Forest pay the fucking money and you can have him... if not shut the fuck up and jog on.

Obviously hes got wind of interest in him and is trying to flush out interested parties, i reckon now his heads turned we would be better letting him go.

Guaranteed Milne deals at anything north of £3 million

Fuck that, I have no idea where this new figure of £7M has come from as the quoted figure previously was always £10M but at the very, very minimum it needs to be £7M plus a 20% sell on clause

If there’s a learning for us it is that the new English transfer deadline is an absolute cunt for us.

If there’s solid English interest so be it. 10% of Maguires fee will be fine. If not, even if a real genuine deal is there, falls through and he eventually finds himself at the Tim’s this was not the way to do it (albeit, get us to the groups and then fuck off and I might just forgive you). Prepare to get a damn good booing either way. Booo booooooooo I say. And really quite vociferously at that!

There is absolutely nothing a manager can do to stop a player leaving at the end of his contract. Nor can he force him out the door early....certainly he could notify other clubs that we would listen to offers but ultimately the power lies with the player who is perfectly entitled to sit out his contract.

However in McKenna's instance, the club holds all the power for the time being due to the length of his contract. If there is a release clause in his contract, the power would only switch to McKenna once a club offers the figure that triggers it. The problem we have for now and which will be one of the biggest tests of Mcinnes' managerial skills is how he manages McKenna through this. His head is bound to be all over the place......can we trust him against Rijeka and the upcoming matches? I don't expect him to deliberately "down tools" but we cannot afford someone in the side who's total concentration cannot be guaranteed. And the fans might well turn on him although I'd hope this wouldn't be the case. What he did was a bad error of judgement but he's a young loon acting on the instructions of an agent who only makes money when a player signs for a new club.

Aye it's not as simple as that though is it. If Taylor or Devlin had been fit one of them would more than lightly be playing Thursday now as McKenna's head isn't in the right place just now.

Tomorrow and back early Friday morning. The window in England closes at 5pm on Thursday so he's either a Dons player after that, gone, or transferred but back on loan until January. I can't see a club paying 5 million or more then loaning him back.

It's not impossible though. Arsenal just paid £27m for some young defender from France but have let him stay with that club for another season.

Sky just said the club are looking for 7-8m. If we get that and a clause of 20% on next sale I think we def should accept.

Slightly worried that bids so far have only been 3-4m though?

Deliberate ploy to unsettle the player and done absolutely in conjunction with his agent. It's obviously in their interest to get a player onboard as cheaply as possible, the player himself might get a bigger signing on fee if the club pay less than expected and the agent gets his cut no matter what.

Supposedly QPR have pulled out and are now chasing ex Hun Bates from Hamburg.
