New Stadium Approved

Recommended Posts

when we go to the matches we either park on the beach and head across to the ground last minute (midweek games as we don't have time for anything else)

Saturday games we come in early and have a few pints as we walk along to pittrodrie in OUR OWN TIME

With the new ground location looks like we wont have time for midweek games unless there is quick parking within stadium reach (no time for shuttles etc)

And Saturday we would most likely just stay in the bar than stand on buses that have set times and take forever to get there

Got to agree with dayts and davemin this will kill the support maybe not at first because of the new factor but down the line support will fall and keep falling

The thought of a new stadium is great and its good the nimbys got a bloody nose and all that but the location is horrendous

milky way (so i can easily find this post 5 years from now)

Here's hoping.

Kingsford is walkable from my house and I hate Dons fans.

Get it built etc.

Plenty of folk at the moment manage to travel further than you will to get to home and away games. Many having to use buses and trains that leave at set times! If you can't face the prospect of a short bus journey and would rather sit in the pub, then that says more about you than anything else

Pittodrie also looks stupid in its current location. Surrounded on 3 sides by flats and pishy road access in and out. When pittodire was 1st built it probably looked similar to your mock-up picture then aberdeen expanded around it. The same will happen in Westhill.

 Either you've never been to Pittodrie, are a gleck or :fishing:

So because you would everyone would as well

To much people on here are letting their emotions overrule their brains

Think of it this way if you go to school a few yards from your house and the school closes do you look for one 5 mile away or something nearer

what other club that has built an out of town stadium has had attendances increase

This. Folk here have swallowed Stewart T's load or are blinkered due to their "WANK" hate.

All this shuttle bus greeting is so over the top. Afc have gone through the process of describing how many shuttle buses theyll put on because thats the only way they could get planning approval.

The actual reality of the situation is, that most folk will still drive to games and theyll find places to park that they can walk to the ground from.

So there won't even be 120 shuttle buses leaving from various places within the city? FFS!

It sounded so plausible too.

Initially yes. And maybe always. But that doesnt mean the number of people taking them will be anywhere near as much as was predicted in the application.

How does it compare to Elland Road?

The number of park and rides will likely shoot up over the next decade. That's clearly something the council are big on to make up for the fact buses are the only public transport they provide.

In 10 years you'll be able to get a bus directly to Kingsford from anywhere in the city by rocking up at a park and ride, meaning parking in Westhill won't be a problem as the city will have loads of satellite car parks.

If the school closer to you is a shitehole would you still go or take the extra time to go to nice newly build school?

Yep.

Or couple of beers in the house then get dropped off at the stadium by your missus/girlfriend/mate/uncle/probation officer etc

where there's a will there's a way

real supporters will always find a way to get to the game

What you're all missing is, like the guy who said he'd walk the last 5 miles, is the lack of enthusiasm when it's every other week, not a one off. Hence crowds can drop by thousands depending on the circumstances at Pittodrie.

Once you've seen Kingsford once that'll be it.

You talk as if Kingsford is in Glasgow.

It’s less than 30 minutes from Union Street by bus. So much handier for many supporters than Pittodrie.

Loads think nothing of travelling over 2.5 hours for an away game so a new stadium 4 miles from Holburn Junction

will not be a travelling issue.

I'm going to be travelling a few thousand miles to matches, what a hassle, maybe I'll not bother because it's slightly inconvenient. No wait, I'm going to support my team and I'll make it work, what an alien concept.

Do people actually know what being a FAN (MT™) is? Where the term fan comes from is a big clue......it's not derived from a word that means; actually an extra half hour travel for a minority will make them go "nah, can't be bothered"

I think we both know it won't take 30 mins in fitba/Saturday traffic.

Yes, plenty. To give you some examples - Juventus, Lyon and Nice. There are many, many more examples.

Now, rather than answering a question with a question, can you answer mine and come up with examples of clubs who have built out of town stadiums, are still in their top flight, yet have seen their crowds drop?

Juve's new stadium is on the same site as the delle Alpi. They only moved to the Olympico while they were rebuilding it. Even then it's less than 3 miles from the centre of Turin and still very much in the city. It also has a dedicated tram station at the ground.

Lyon's old stadium was already "out of town" by your own standards - being 3 miles from the centre of Lyon.

Juve - more like 4 miles and you can't get a tram from city centre to stadium, you need a combination of metro/tram or metro/bus. Takes about half an hour.

Lyon - it's 6 miles now. So is Nice.

Lyon's stadium is quite far out, but there are far better transport links.
