The Mckenna Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Yep, looks like I was wrong to doubt him, despite his burnley ragdolling

An absolute colossus

Almost as if he's still young & inexperienced & still learning but with HUGE potential.

Almost like these young players (especially defenders) aren't allowed to make some mistakes in this experience gaining time of learning.

Almost like 'some people' have no fkn clue what so ever how to judge a serious talent unless they are foreign & have the media promoting them.

McKenna will still make lots of mistakes. ALL young defenders do. He clearly learns from them but 'some people' are too thick to appreciate this. Unless they are foreign & excused of these mistakes or delusionally completely blanked from 'some peoples' egotistical memories

Littering your ramblings with block capitalled words is really REALLY annoying

ESPECIALLY (MT™️) when not referenced properly

As a one off performance I’m pretty sure Miller would have been proud of that last night but I’m in no way claiming he’s in the same league as God

Seems fair to me.......£12m then and we’ll call it quits

Miller would be up there with van dijk valuations if he played now.

Miller would still have been a Rolls Royce of a defender in modern day football. He would have eaten strikers like Morelos for breakfast.

Unfortunately in this era we would have lost Miller to far richer clubs very early in his career. And McLeish.

Modern day football sucks.

McKenna will have more poor games, similar to those against Burnley, and the Huns back in February, etc...  He's still learning and developing as a player.  However these games will become less frequent... and performances like the last two at Parkhead and Ibrox will become more prevalent.

I've had to laugh at some of the comments regarding McKenna on here from a few, following the odd poor performance... ('we should have taken the money', 'we'll never get another big offer again').

No player just immediately spawns into a flawless, world beater.  Have a look the highlights of Matthijs de Ligt’s first cap for Holland.  If that had been McKenna, some of the comments on here would've been interesting!

Young defenders will always make mistakes. The trick is to learn from them and McKenna seems to have done. By all accounts he has a great attitude every day in training and is a winner with an obvious nasty streak which you need as a central defender (as long as it doesn't boil over too often like it did in the 4-2 hun loss at Pittodrie). He bossed Morelos in the last two Sevco games.

He has been as solid as a rock in the last 3 games (all against the old firm). We only conceded one goal (a mistake at a set piece by Cosgrove). McKenna was outstanding in each game. Does anyone think he wouldn't walk straight into any other SPL's first XI? Outside of Celtic he's the best centre half in the league he's better than anyone Sevco or Hearts have got. Gerrard would love to have him at Sevco I'm sure of that.

Celtic have some good centre halves but they would swap McKenna for Simunovic in a heartbeat and they paid £5m for him. Benkovic is not their player. Hendry is well below McKenna's level at the moment. Which leaves Boyata and Ajer. Both very good players at this level and guess it's individual opinion whether he would unseat any of them in Celtic's first choice XI.

I don't think we'll sell him till next summer. Getting better every big game. I remember thinking he was overrated after the Semi v Motherwell last year, he had a stinker.

Since then in every big game more or less he's been an absolute mammoth. His distribution isn't great but on Tuesday I honestly can't remember a better performance from an Aberdeen centre half in my life. Under heaps of pressure at the orc dome and he was cool as fuck. He's great in the air, a threat from set pieces, but what you'll notice is his reading of the game is coming on something fierce. Marshalling people out of play, stopping crosses, just getting enough on the opponent to put them off. He's a proper proper defender.

It does worry me he's perhaps not technical enough to play at international level, you can't always get by with him playing like he does at international level. Perhaps Mulgrew or Souttar will go in beside him to compliment him, as both are very good with the ball at their feet for CB's.

Every cap he earns his value goes up and up. Who's to say he'd want to leave Aberdeen if he's getting in Scotland squads? When he could so easily sign for a Fulham or Burnley and just become insignificant. I think he'll be here a few years yet.

Don't be surprised to see Leicester City make a bid for Scott McKenna in the summer. Brendan Rodgers appears to have far more flexibility with transfer fees and negotiations with Leicester City than he had with the victims when they tried to buy him on the cheap.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that's where he ends up.  Slabhead might be off in the summer, Morgan is getting on... and Evans has struggled lately.  There would be worse places for him to continue his development.

Very true min. Scott McKenna would cakewalk into their team just now and even arguably their championship winning team of three years ago. A tempting £10 million bid would certainly test our resolve.

I'm not sure he's ready to walk straight into the first XI of a side that won the EPL a couple of years ago. Leicester have just spent £80m on a new training ground alone and if reports are to be believed Rodgers will have a £200m transfer kitty this summer. He has Benkovic to come back from Celtic as well.

I think he might be looking for one or two more established centre halves with the kind of money he is going to have available. Though he might think McKenna is worth signing with a view to the future and loaning him out for a season or two first.

But if I was a betting man I'd say he will be keeping an eye on his development over the next year or so before trying to sign him he clearly admires his qualities. He's far more likely to sign the likes of Boyata this summer.

I'd reckon Boyata is a racing cert to go to Leicester in the summer. Possibly accompanied by Tierney. Don't think McKenna is quite at that level yet, were an EPL club to come in for him I'd say Burnley were a good fit....he's better than anyone they have at present. Leeds or whoever gets promoted might also be interested.

Should Tierney follow Rodgers to Leicester, there would be a gaping hole at left back for Celtic. I'd suggest that is a far more likely destination for Shinnie should he leave us but still remain in Scotland.

You think that if he likes McKenna that he would think he has the luxury of waiting to sign him until he see how he develops?

Sorry but he'll be sold to the first high offer & if that isn't the transvestite then it will be someone else.

Fit? McKenna is better than Boyata. He's easily good enough for some no mark shithouse like Leicester.

Brexit will massively increase the value of McKenna down south.

Not as easy for them to get EU players on the cheap post Brexit.

£50m

Not an unrealistic prospect if we leave without a deal and the English FA introduce a rule saying 60% of any players on the park must be British or something similar to boost the fortunes of the national sides. Wont happen though as the top 6 sides in England have too much money and influence to allow it.

It's not really reality to call Leicester no marks. They have billionaire owners and have just spent £80m on their new training facilities. They did win the EPL a couple of years ago and reach the QF of the CL. I wish we were no mark shithouses like that in our own league and in europe. They also have an average attendance twice the size of ours. And they also play James Maddison is his proper position.

However that doesn't mean McKenna isn't good enough for them. I think he is I'm just not convinced he would walk straight into their first team right now. For instance I rate Benkovic as the best centre half in our league this season and he's not considered ready for their first team yet despite costing them £13m.

Couldn't give a fuck what they've built with their pretendy EPL money or how much their sex trafficker owner has in the bank.

The criteria for if a team are no marks is as follows

1) How many European trophies have they won? Have they won the super cup?

2) Are they the fucking famous?

If the answer to any of the above is no, they're a no mark shithouse.
