Cast the net wide, just cos Vogts failed, doesn't mean all foreigners will fail, plenty Scottish managers have failed on the interational stage.

Lars Lagerbäck for me.

Lagerback would fit the bill but he has just started with Norway, I think a foreigner is a no brainier as the Scottish candidates are all negative and shit, someone with a bit of imagination and no biases or fear to play young players

Someone who knows and respects the Scottish league. Got to move away from this Anglo-centric approach

Putting my tin hat on for this one. Going to suggest a young coach who is based in Scotland and has just spent a year under an excellent coach, albeit an arrogant prick.

Would be nice to see an appointment from outside the self congratulating cartel of losers that passes for your Sfa network of Scottish coaches.

A lot of people of the opinion we need to go with a manager who  has recent experience of our league so they know the talent they have to work with from our league. Unfortunately that man could be our gaffer or maybe Alex Neil who has had a decent start at Preston but really they aren't a club he will be able to do much more than maybe push for a top half finish.

If we are going down the SFA route then it should be Scott Gemmill, I have been really impressed the way he was went about setting up his youth sides over the last few years and I believe he was the last man to take a Scotland team to a championships albeit the under 17s. But he qualified from a group by beating Germany and was only knocked out in the quarter finals by eventual finalists Holland. Most of that team now play in the under 21s and he seems to have them doing well so it might just be a bit early for him to leapfrog in to the first team job.

Some of the people on the bookies list are just plucked out of thin air. Ian Cathro 33-1? Really? I know people still, probably justifiably, rate him as a coach but he isn't getting near a head coach position for a long, long time.

I'm not too bothered personally if the next guy doesn't know anything about Scottish football. There's a year until our next competitive game and might actually be okay to have someone watch players and judge them on current form and ability rather than things they did 5 years ago or who they used to play for.

Barry Fergahun suggested Paul "Lambo" Lambert on the wireless this morning.

I like the idea of Sam Allardyce though.

Vogts was a try at thinking outside the box, but Allardyce would be better as he knows Uk football better and has a direct connection with Scotland.

Sam also has something to prove, after his non-starter of a tenure as England Boss.

He cant be worse than any ex-hun/tim tosser who is looking for his next comnfy role as part of the old boys network jobs merry-go-round.

David Moyes - desperate and otherwise unemployable

Alex McLeish - desperate and otherwise unemployable

Paul Lambert - desperate and otherwise unemployable

Malky Mackay - desperate and otherwise unemployable

These are the top four candidates ffs :clangers2:

Strachan also fitted the above criteria. We are a nation of losers.

Sir Alex. Bring him home.

It's a part time job, and although Strachan made a cunt of it it's a squad that should be / is good enough to qualify for tournaments. Someone who's a bit more tactically aware should be able to qualify for the Euros and be hailed a hero, our first competition in 20 years.

Also not very likely to bend over to the SFA/old firm, but a big enough name that they'd have no choice but to let him do his own thing really.

Doubt he'd be interested like, but i'd like to see us at least asking the question.

Correct but remember this is the SFA we are talking about here.

They are as much to blame for Scotland's failures as the managers they pick.

Oh much more, they are one of the most corrupt organisations in sport, if not the most corrupt.

Blazer wearing freemasons indulging themselves with criminal enterprises and copious amounts of alcohol is how I would describe the employees of Hampden.

Nah, he should be remembered as the successful boss of us and man U, not another scotland failure.

Think he knows he's done well to quit while hes been ahead.

Steve Clarke is the most innovative Scottish option. Would love to see some ambition to go for a relatively big name.

They've announced a shortlist already? Unlikely.

Is that nae just a list of unemployed Scottish managers?

I'd chose Sam Allerdyce, got shit/average players playing better than they should at pretty much every job he went to.

Root and branch reform of the game from top to bottom. Manager needs to be highly technically minded and have the authority to exercise his methods right throughout the game.

The man for the job is Marcelo Bielsa.

Depends if the SFA has a vision for how Scotland teams play and the attitude to young players.

Should we focus on the technical side, make sure a passing game with control is established at youth level to the senior team and build squads that can best play that type of football and subsequently employ a coach who is of that profile?

Or do we just be pragmatic with a focus on qualify, just win with whatever way you can with the best players?
