Holidays 2018

We will prob take the car on the DFDS newcastle-amsterdam ferry route again. But instead of the German Reich, (which I like), this time the Mrs is wanting to try a specific holiday park in the Netherlands on the grounds that its good for families.

I quite enjoy the ferry - it can be expensive to take the car but the whole experience is absolute luxury compared to flying, albeit this route it an overnigher. Although nothing beats enjoying breakfast at the cabin window, as the ship arrives in Ijmuiden (Amsterdam).

I totally dig the "roll on / roll off" nature of the car ferry, none of this loitering for ages around baggage carousels etc, then fannying about laden with bags as you search for a taxi / bus / car hire. Roll on, roll off. Its fucking brilliant. (I like to pretend its the normandy landings  ) Also, the ferry food is excellent as is the freedom to roam, go on deck / sit at the bar etc. And the staff are great too, especially if you have a baby - staff falling over themselves to help.

NL is good for adults too CS min

We went on that ferry on the way to Groningen

You are easily impressed.

They are introducing a variation of the Road Equivalent Tariff on the Aberdeen ferries to Lerwick and Kirkwall later this year so should be a good bit cheaper then.

How much are you talking?

For two of us with a car for a weekend in February it was £442.

I can get to Alicante and back for £25

Alicante doesn't have a Parkrun though, arseholes.

Is it not cheaper to hire a car there than pay the £100 each way car charge?

(Im using 2015 info)

They were talking about a 30-40% reduction, but they're being pretty vague with the details.

Vegas in October with the boys.

Couple Dons trips in summer hopefully.

Planning a week away in March/April. Not sure where yet. My mum's just bought a place in Southern France so might go over for a nosey.

Where in Southern France? One of the best places on the planet in my experience so well worth a visit, I would recommend.

Why is Las Vegas so popular? A guy in our local goes over every year. I've never been but don't understand the attraction?

Me neither. Went a few years ago at mates wedding. Id go back to check out the canyon and Hoover dam but the casino side of things was a bit meh.

Fremont Old Vegas was the highlight from a casino perspective.

More South/west tbh. Rural setting pretty close to Bordeaux. I've only ever been to Paris in France so the idea of just chilling out exploring the area and drinking wine certainly appeals.

Vegas - I've been a few times, it's turned into a regular break with the boys every 2/3 years. Depends what you like but I think it's a great place. Lots to do, great restaurants and attractions and cracking for nights out. Plenty to do in the vicinity too.

I was in Bordeaux 20 years ago for the World Cup v. Norway and it's a lovely city. I'm biased because France is my favourite country in the world for many different reasons but Les Landes, south of Bordeaux and all the way through Biarritz and towards Spain is a magical area. Frejus and St Raphael is my favourite part of the Cote d"Azur, rather than Cannes and St Tropez which gets more attention, fuck knows why for the latter.

I have a feeling that I will never visit Vegas. It's more than a feeling actually, I just know.

Your money goes a long way down in Fremont, loved staying there last year but then I did like staying on the strip the year before too but if you're there for 5+ days your money will last longers in the older casinos plus you get treated better in terms of service.

If I'm to go back this year I might stay at a couple of hotels as I've got a couple of deals to use at MGM properties.
